Is boiled water scale harmful to the human body?

Is boiled water scale harmful to the human body?

There is some truth in the fact that scale is considered to be a substance that is harmful to the human body. Because scale contains some heavy metal components, if it is frequently ingested, it will affect the body's digestion and absorption functions, and cause diseases such as stones. Therefore, we must not ignore scale. If you find scale in a pot or kettle, be sure to clean it up in time!

1. Affect digestion and absorption

The impact of scale on human health should not be ignored. Scale can easily cause gastrointestinal digestion and absorption disorders and constipation, and increase the incidence of gastritis and various types of stones. Tartar and periodontitis are often caused by scale and can be fatal. Legionnaires' disease, for which there is still no vaccine, hides in scale.

2. Stone formation

The insolubility of scale in water is only relative. When the water is heated, some of the precipitate will dissolve, which will bring the heavy metal ions that formed the precipitate back into the water, causing the content of heavy metal ions in the water to exceed the requirements of sanitary standards and endanger human health. For example, large amounts of calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate deposited in the human body can easily form stones.

3. Contains harmful metal substances

Experts conducted a chemical analysis on the scale of boiled water stored in a 5-pound thermos for 18 days and found that it contained a variety of harmful metal substances, including 0.034 mg of cadmium, 0.12 mg of lead, 24 mg of iron, 0.21 mg of arsenic, and 0.44 mg of mercury. This shows that even if the drinking water meets the hygiene standards, trace metal elements can precipitate and accumulate in the water after being stored in a thermos, which can endanger human health. If the drinking water does not meet hygiene standards, the potential health hazards are even more serious. Therefore, scale must be removed regularly.

4. Contains heavy metal elements

When using scale-covered containers to hold acidic liquids such as sour plum soup and beer, some heavy metal elements precipitated in the scale will undergo chemical reactions and redissolve in water or other liquids. If people ingest small amounts of these substances over a long period of time, they can cause lesions and dysfunctions in the digestive, nervous, respiratory and hematopoietic systems, causing serious harm to human health. So don't underestimate this scale.
