The difference between tendons and tendons

The difference between tendons and tendons

Tendon is a type of connective tissue in the human body. Generally, tendons are white and very tough, but they do not have the ability to stretch. They are mainly used to connect the bones and muscles of the human body. Tendons are a completely different substance. They can be stretched and play a vital role in supporting the movement of human joints. So, what are the differences between tendons and tendons?

The word "tendon" is not an independent terminology in modern anatomy. It is a commonly used term in traditional Chinese medicine, which includes four completely different things in anatomy:

First: human muscles , to be more precise, skeletal muscles, because their most basic function is to stretch and contract, pulling the joints to perform various movements. Muscles need to be moved regularly, that is, stretched, to maintain their elasticity and flexibility. Acrobats and gymnasts can bend their bodies in ways that normal people cannot, mainly because their muscles can be lengthened through training.

Second: tendon, which is a cord-like or membrane-like dense connective tissue connecting bones and muscles. It is composed of parallel dense collagen fiber bundles. It is white in color, strong but has no contraction function. Its tensile strength is 112-233 times that of muscle. For example, you can feel a "big tendon" on the heel of a person, which is the Achilles tendon. For example, on the back of our hands, there are five extensor tendons corresponding to the five fingers, which are very strong and powerful.

Third: Ligaments are dense bundles of fibrous connective tissue that exist in human joints and connect bones. Their function is to strengthen the stability of joints and limit excessive movement. Improper exercise can lead to muscle and ligament strain.

Fourth: The visible superficial veins of the body swell when blood pressure or pressure increases, which is more obvious in the neck.

To sum up, tendons, tendons and muscles are several different conceptual terms in different medical fields.
