I have pimples and swelling on my eyelids

Acne is a substance that is quite harmful to human skin. Generally, there are a lot of debris and harmful substances in acne, which are caused by many dirty things that cannot be discharged from the body and accumulate on the skin. Some acne only affects people's appearance, but some acne affects people's health. Some people have acne on their eyelids, which not only often cause itchy, red and swollen eyelids, but may even cause eyelid inflammation. So, what should you do if you have acne on your eyelids?

The "pimples" on the eyelids may be styes or chalazions.

Stye or Chalazion?

Doctors say that these two eye diseases are very similar, and many patients often confuse them, mistaking chalazions for styes, which delays timely treatment. How to distinguish between stye and chalazion? The key is the pain!

Chalazion

A chalazion is a cyst formed when the outlet of a meibomian gland becomes blocked. When the disease occurs, if you touch the eyelid carefully with your hand, you will find a small cyst.

•When there is no acute inflammation, it is neither red nor painful. Sometimes you can only see local congestion and a little redness by opening your eyelids.

•When the gland is blocked at the exit and chronic irritation is severe, it can be seen on the eyelids with mild tenderness, so it is always ignored by many people.

Stye

Stye is a bacterial infection caused by Staphylococcus aureus, and when it occurs, there are acute inflammatory symptoms such as redness, swelling, heat and pain. Stye develops rapidly, usually one grows every 2-3 days, and a white head appears in about 4-5 days, accompanied by pus.

• Red: Localized congestion of the eye;

• Swelling: During the illness, there is eyelid edema and local pain;

• Heat: The temperature of the eye is higher than other parts of the body;

•Pain: There is obvious local pressure pain.

Improper care may prolong the course of the disease

If you do have a foreign body in your eye, you must first find out what disease you have before treating it, because the care methods for styes and chalazions are very different!

In the early stage of stye, you can use antibiotic eye drops and eye ointment at home, and apply hot compresses to the eyelids. Do not squeeze the pus to avoid infection.

In the early stages of chalazion, you can also use hot compresses, eye drops, eye ointments, etc. Larger chalazions may compress the eyeball, cause astigmatism, reduce vision, and increase the chance of infection, requiring surgery in the hospital to remove them.

Whether it is a chalazion or a stye, if the redness and swelling are severe, you should go to the hospital for treatment. If there is no sign of improvement after self-treatment with hot compresses for more than 3 days or if pus spots have appeared, the patient should also go to the hospital's ophthalmology department for stye incision and drainage or chalazion surgery.

Five tips to help you prevent

Pay attention to rest and don’t rub your eyes: Pay attention to rest, don’t stay up late, and don’t overstrain your eyes. Eye fatigue can cause people to rub their eyes, which can easily bring germs into the eyes.

Light diet: Avoid eating too many greasy and heavy dishes, and eat more vegetables. This will reduce the amount of fat excreted by the body and will not block the glandular secretion outlet.

Clean the roots of eyelashes: For those who have more oil secretion, they should clean the roots of eyelashes when washing their face every day to keep the openings of the glands unobstructed and allow the oil to be discharged smoothly.

Remove makeup thoroughly: Women must remove their eye makeup thoroughly. Sometimes, too much makeup is applied at the roots of the eyelashes, which may cause the opening of the meibomian glands to be blocked.

Moderate exercise: Do more physical exercise to improve your physical fitness and enhance your immunity.
