How does scoliosis form? Five factors can cause the disease

Scoliosis is most common among children and adolescents, and it can have a great impact on children's psychology. The causes of scoliosis include genetic factors and incorrect posture. Parents should urge their children to have correct posture to avoid scoliosis.

1. Genetic factors: Epidemiological studies on idiopathic scoliosis show that the incidence of scoliosis in the families of scoliosis patients is higher than that in the general population. Although there is a lot of data proving the role of genetic factors in the occurrence and development of idiopathic scoliosis, its specific inheritance pattern is still unclear.

2. Pathological spinal curvature of the chest: Suffering from suppurative or tuberculous pleurisy in childhood, excessive thickening and contracture of the costal pleura, or undergoing thoracoplasty in childhood disrupts the balance of the spine during development. Both can cause spinal curvature.

3. Osteoporotic spinal curvature: Osteoporotic vertebrae deform, resulting in unequal widths between vertebrae, which can cause spinal curvature.

4. Postural and functional spinal curvature: often caused by some incorrect posture and often found in school-age children. This type of spinal curvature is not considered serious when the patient lies flat or hangs on a horizontal bar with both hands. The deformity may disappear on its own.

5. Neuropathic spinal curvature: caused by imbalance of muscle tension due to poliomyelitis, neurofibroma, syringomyelia, cerebral palsy, etc. The younger the patient's age at onset, the more severe the curvature deformity.
