What are the symptoms of gastroptosis

In life, we often encounter abdominal pain. There are many reasons for this situation, such as gastroptosis. In the early stage of this disease, you may just have a little stomach pain, and many people think that this is just a small problem and do not take it seriously. When the symptoms worsen later, vomiting and worsening abdominal pain will occur. At this time, we must go for a check-up to avoid affecting the patient's health. Let us take a closer look at the symptoms of this disease.

Common symptoms of gastroptosis:

Abdominal distension, tenderness, nausea, abdominal pain, secondary constipation

1. Symptoms

Clinical manifestations

Mild gastroptosis is usually asymptomatic, while moderate or severe gastroptosis often causes symptoms of poor gastrointestinal motility and indigestion.

1. Patients with abdominal distension and upper abdominal discomfort often report a feeling of fullness, heaviness, and pressure in the abdomen.

2. Abdominal pain is mostly persistent dull pain. It often occurs after meals and is related to food intake. The more you eat, the longer the pain lasts and the more severe the pain is. At the same time, pain is related to activity, and activity after meals often makes the pain worse.

3. Nausea and vomiting often occur after meals, especially when eating too much. This is because taking in a large amount of food at one time increases the traction of the stomach wall ligaments and causes pain, followed by nausea and vomiting.

4. Constipation Constipation is often stubborn. The main reason may be that the transverse colon ptosis causes the hepatic flexure and splenic flexure of the colon to form an acute angle, resulting in slow passage.

5. Neuropsychiatric symptoms: The various symptoms of gastroptosis torment patients for a long time, causing excessive mental burden on them, resulting in neuropsychiatric symptoms such as insomnia, headache, dizziness, dullness, depression, etc. Symptoms may also include hypotension, palpitations, and syncope upon standing.

6. Physical examination shows a slender body shape. The tenderness point in the upper abdomen is not fixed due to changes in standing and lying positions. Sometimes, when impact palpation is used, or when the patient changes position rapidly, a sound of water vibrating below the navel can be heard. The aortic pulsation can be easily felt in the upper abdomen, often accompanied by signs of hepatoptosis, nephroptosis and colonoptosis.

diagnosis

The diagnosis is easier to make based on the patient's medical history, clinical manifestations, and water ultrasound tests and X-ray findings. The degree of gastroptosis is generally considered moderate if the lesser curvature notch is 1 to 5 cm below the level of the line connecting the two iliac crests, and severe if it is more than 11 cm.

What causes gastroptosis?

Gastroptosis refers to the situation in which the stomach is positioned low when a person is standing, with the lower edge of the stomach hanging down into the pelvic cavity and the lowest point of the lesser curvature of the stomach dropping below the line connecting the iliac crests (approximately at the level of the navel). Gastrointestinal hospital experts pointed out that the causes of gastroptosis are as follows:

1. Congenital causes

People with asthenic body shape have thin body, narrow chest, pale skin, thin subcutaneous fat or muscle malnutrition, free tenth rib, etc. Patients with congenital gastroptosis often have complications of ptosis of other internal organs.

2. Acquired causes

Chronic wasting disease occurs in combination with or after recovery from a serious illness; it is a complication of other digestive system diseases. Such as chronic gastritis, gastric ulcer, etc.; relaxation of abdominal muscles or decreased intra-abdominal pressure, such as women giving birth multiple times, abdominal tumor resection, sudden weight loss, or increased intrathoracic pressure, such as long-term coughing, stuffiness, downward displacement of the heart border, etc., are all causes of gastroptosis.

3. Other reasons

At the same time, other reasons for gastroptosis include: due to the relaxation and weakness of the muscles and ligaments that suspend and fix the position of the stomach and the decrease in abdominal pressure, the entire position of the stomach is lowered and gastric motility is weakened. Women who have a sudden drop in abdominal pressure after childbirth, or those who have a thin and long body shape, chronic wasting diseases, or those who work standing up for a long time or stay in bed and do not move much are prone to this disease.
