Classification and diagnosis of liver cancer

Primary liver cancer is also known as liver cancer. It is one of the diseases that plague modern people. It refers to the canceration of liver cells and intrahepatic bile duct epithelial cells. It has its own characteristics. This disease is different from secondary liver cancer (metastatic liver cancer). So, what are the types and diagnoses of liver cancer?

Generally, the more common clinical classifications of primary liver cancer are: (1) Massive type: This is the most common clinical classification of primary liver cancer, which is single, multiple or fused into a mass with a diameter of ≥5cm. Those larger than 10cm are called giant masses, which are mostly round, hard, and expansive. The liver tissue around the cancer mass is often squeezed to form a pseudocapsule. This type is prone to liquefaction, necrosis and bleeding, so complications such as liver rupture and intraperitoneal bleeding often occur. (2) Nodular type: This is a more common clinical classification of primary liver cancer, with cancer nodules of varying sizes and numbers, generally not exceeding 5cm in diameter. The nodules are mostly in the right lobe of the liver, and the boundary with the surrounding liver tissue is not as clear as that of the mass type, and is often accompanied by cirrhosis. A single cancer nodule with a diameter of less than 3cm or a sum of the diameters of two adjacent cancer nodules with a diameter of less than 3cm is called a small liver cancer. (3) Diffuse type: This is the rarest clinical type of primary liver cancer. Cancer nodules ranging in size from rice grains to soybeans are diffusely distributed throughout the liver. They are difficult to distinguish from cirrhosis. The liver is not significantly enlarged and may even shrink. Patients often die of liver failure.
