What is the physiological function of the spleen in traditional Chinese medicine

Traditional Chinese medicine in our country is the quintessence of our country. It has been around for thousands of years and has better methods for treating some diseases. Of course, there are many types of traditional Chinese medicine. We used to treat diseases with traditional Chinese medicine, but now we generally use a combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicine. In fact, there is still a big difference between traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine, because Western medicine emphasizes practice and anatomy, but traditional Chinese medicine is not like this. So what is the physiological function of the spleen in traditional Chinese medicine? Let’s find out together.

(1) Main transport

The spleen is responsible for transportation and transformation, which means that the spleen has the physiological function of transforming food and water into fine substances and transferring these fine substances to the whole body. It mainly includes two functions: transporting and transforming the essence of food and water and transporting and transforming water fluids.

Transporting and transforming the essence of water and grain refers to the function of digesting and absorbing food and transferring its essence. After food is taken into the stomach, it must rely on the spleen's transportation and transformation function to transform the water and grain into fine substances, which are transferred to the heart and lungs and distributed throughout the body, so that each internal organ, tissue, and organ can obtain adequate nutrition to maintain normal physiological functions.

The transportation and transformation of water refers to the spleen's absorption, transfer and distribution of water.

(2) Spleen Qi is responsible for ascending

The spleen function is to ascend and disperse.

It mainly includes two aspects:

First, the spleen is responsible for ascending the clear, which refers to the rise and dispersion of fine substances. After being absorbed, nutrients such as water and grain essence are transported to the heart and lungs under the spleen's function of ascending the clearness, and are transformed into qi and blood through the function of the heart and lungs to nourish the whole body.

Second, the spleen is responsible for lifting and ascending to maintain the normal position of the internal organs of the body. The visceral tissues and organs exist in the abdominal cavity and all have their own fixed positions without sinking, relying mainly on the ascending function of the spleen.

(3) Main blood

The spleen governs blood, which means that the spleen can govern and control blood so that it circulates normally in the vessels and does not overflow (escape) outside the vessels. The reason why the spleen can regulate blood is closely related to the fact that the spleen is the source of qi and blood production. If the spleen's transportation and transformation function is strong, Qi and blood will be abundant. If the Qi's consolidation function is normal, it can control the blood and make it circulate in the vessels instead of escaping from the vessels.

Through the above content, we have a better understanding of the physiological functions of the spleen in traditional Chinese medicine. Sometimes we always go to see a Chinese medicine doctor, but we also have to find a professional doctor for Chinese medicine, because Chinese medicine is the most profound, and there are many books and a lot of knowledge, so it is important to choose a professional Chinese medicine doctor. I believe that through this article, we have a certain understanding of Chinese medicine.
