Essential oil poisoning symptoms

Essential oil poisoning symptoms

As we all know, people's skin qualities vary greatly. Some people have poorer skin qualities and usually need to use a lot of skin care products to maintain their skin. Essential oils are one of them. Some people usually apply essential oils on their skin to promote the skin's absorption of essential oils. However, not everyone can apply essential oils, and some people may suffer from essential oil poisoning. So, what are the symptoms of essential oil poisoning?

Even some essential oils that are generally considered to be quite mild can have adverse effects on damaged skin.

Human skin plays a dual role as a shield against a variety of insults, both physical and chemical, and slows the rate at which other substances are absorbed into the bloodstream. If the skin is broken or abraded, the level and rate of absorption of various substances is difficult to predict and in most cases will sustain absorption far exceeding normal levels.

It depends on the specific situation! Infants, postpartum women, breastfeeding women, people with high blood pressure, pregnant women, and those in the menstrual cycle should not use essential oils! In addition, there are three forms of skin reactions caused by essential oils: Pain: A small amount of essential oils are particularly strong and can cause severe pain in the skin. These include essential oils such as wasabi, garlic, and mustard, which are rarely used in aromatherapy.

There are also some essential oils that can cause moderate pain when used in aromatherapy massage, such as cinnamon, cloves, fennel, and verbena. These essential oils should be used with caution to avoid causing pain. Sensitivity: Skin sensitivity means skin allergies, which manifests itself in redness of the skin. If you use a base oil, you will rarely have allergies. However, there are still a large number of reports of essential oils causing skin allergies, such as vomiting, dermatitis, itching, etc.

Photosensitivity reaction: Some essential oils may cause photosensitivity reaction if the skin is exposed to sunlight after being applied to the skin. Even after being diluted in a low concentration using a base oil, this problem may still occur in the sun. If the skin is exposed to sunlight right after application, the photosensitivity reaction will be stronger; after using this kind of essential oil, it is generally necessary to wait 8 to 12 hours before exposing it to sunlight. Most of these essential oils are citrus essential oils, and bergamot essential oil has the most obvious reaction. The best course of action is to use the proper dilution ratio and avoid direct exposure to UV rays.

Essential oils are volatile aromatic substances extracted from the flowers, leaves, stems, roots or fruits of plants through steam distillation, pressing, cold soaking or solvent extraction. Essential oils are divided into diluted (compound essential oils) and undiluted (single essential oils), such as cactus seed oil. Essential oils are highly volatile and will evaporate quickly once they come into contact with air. For this reason, essential oils must be stored in dark, sealable bottles. Once opened, the cap must be replaced as soon as possible.
