Sex education for children

Sex education for children

In the medical field, it is believed that when a child reaches the age of eight or nine, his or her sexual organs will begin to develop. As he or she grows older and matures, the child will gradually become sexually ignorant and begin to feel curious about sex. This is a very normal physiological development process. Therefore, during the child's development, in order to prevent the child from making mistakes in the process of self-exploration, parents also need to instill correct sexual concepts in their children. Then it is essential to provide sex education to children.

When educating children about sex, parents must first establish correct concepts and not lead their children into misunderstandings. In daily life, we should teach children to gradually recognize the various parts of their body and their simple functions, including sexual organs. Parents who sleep in the same bed with their children should not kiss, caress, or even have sex in front of their children. We should pay attention to children's mental health education and health knowledge education.

1. Parents should establish correct concepts and not lead their children into misunderstandings.

As babies grow up, they will ask all kinds of questions about the differences between male and female organs, and parents will naturally be the first people to be asked. Parents don't have to answer irrelevant questions, or be evasive, or make excuses, or treat the questions as dirty and obscene and scold them harshly. This will cause children to mistakenly regard genitals as a symbol of obscenity and shamelessness, and regard all activities related to them as ugly. Some children may even develop a rebellious mentality, insisting on finding out the truth, or play with their own sexual organs more frequently to satisfy their curiosity, or spy on their parents' sex lives, forming a sense of mystery, and even embarking on a criminal path when they grow up. In short, this will seriously hinder the healthy psychological development of children.

2. In daily life, teach children to gradually recognize the various parts of their body and their simple functions, including sexual organs.

Parents should be realistic and give easy-to-understand explanations, which can not only allay children's doubts and gain their trust, but also help to foster a good relationship between parents and children. For example, when you are bathing your child, you can also teach him about his body, point out his reproductive organs, and teach him the correct names. This way, the child will view his sexual organs as naturally as his own hair. Medical experts have said that children aged 3-6 often touch their own genitals, are interested in, and even peek at other people going to the toilet. This does not mean that the child has sexual consciousness or awareness, but is simply out of mystery and curiosity.

3. Parents who sleep in the same bed with their children should not be affectionate, caressing, or even have sex in front of their children. They should not give their children the opportunity to witness or peek, because this will cause children to have wild thoughts, become nervous, and create mental stress, which will hinder their psychological development.

4. Pay attention to children’s mental health education and health knowledge education.

Parents must shoulder the responsibility of "preaching and answering questions". If your child plays with his or her genitals, don't simply scold him or her. Instead, tell him or her that that is the place for urination and that touching one's genitals will make one sick. The next step is to help children choose good companions, good books, audio-visual tapes and other spiritual food to divert their attention, enhance their physical and mental health, and help them grow positively.
