Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic, systemic disease of unknown etiology characterized by inflammatory synovitis. It is characterized by polyarticular, symmetrical, invasive arthritis of the small joints of the hands and feet, often accompanied by extra-articular organ involvement and positive serum rheumatoid factor, which can lead to joint deformities and loss of function.

Causes

The onset of RA may be related to genetics, infection, sex hormones, etc. The pathology of RA arthritis mainly includes proliferation of synovial lining cells, infiltration of a large number of inflammatory cells in the interstitium, as well as the formation of microvessels, the formation of pannus and the destruction of cartilage and bone tissue.

What should patients with rheumatoid arthritis not eat?

Foods that should not be consumed in excess: Excessive intake of acidic foods such as chicken, duck, fish, meat, eggs, etc. This will make the body's pH value transiently high, increase lactic acid secretion, and then aggravate the clinical manifestations.

Too salty food: Too salty food such as pickles, salted eggs, and salted fish should not be consumed too much, as it will increase the sodium ions in the body and aggravate the patient's symptoms.

Foods containing tyrosine, phenylalanine, and tryptophan, such as milk (cow's milk, goat's milk, etc.) and peanuts, chocolate, millet, cheese, toffee, etc., contain tyrosine, phenylalanine, and tryptophan. These foods can produce mediators and antibodies that cause arthritis, which can easily cause allergies and lead to worsening, recurrence, or deterioration of arthritis.

Seafood products such as kelp, marine fish, and shrimps have high purine content. After being absorbed by the human body, urate crystals can form in the joints, aggravating joint symptoms.

When cooking high-fat and high-cholesterol foods such as fatty meat, use less oil when stir-frying or making soup. Fat and cholesterol can produce inflammatory mediators, which can easily aggravate joint pain, swelling, bone decalcification and joint damage. Sweets can easily cause allergies due to the sugar content, which can aggravate the development of joint synovitis and easily lead to increased joint swelling and pain.

Other drinks such as alcohol, coffee, tea, etc., be careful to avoid smoking, as they can aggravate the deterioration of arthritis.

What should patients with rheumatoid arthritis eat?

It is recommended to eat the following: Eat high-protein, low-fat, easily digestible foods appropriately to supplement the protein needed by the human body. The diet should be light.

Eat more vegetables, fruits and grains to supplement the necessary vitamins and minerals needed by the human body.
