Electric welding safety precautions

Every profession is worthy of people's admiration. Among them, the profession of welder requires not only superb skills but also absolute safety awareness. Because welders are generally a group of people in a higher risk occupation, there are many cases of accidents occurring during the welding process. For welders, they must understand the precautions during the welding process before performing welding.

Safety precautions for welders (I) Electric welding

1. Electric welders must undergo professional training and pass the examination before they can take up their posts. Non-electric welders are strictly prohibited from engaging in welding operations.

2. Operators should wear welding work clothes, insulating shoes, welding gloves, protective masks and other safety protection equipment. When working at heights, you must wear a safety belt.

3. Flammable and explosive items shall not be piled within 10 meters around the welding site.

4. Outdoor work is not allowed in rain, snow, or strong winds of Level 6 or above. After rain or snow, accumulated water and snow should be cleared before work can begin.

5. Before operation, the welding machine and tools should be checked, such as the insulation of the welding clamp and welding cable, the protective grounding of the welding machine casing and various connection points of the welding machine, etc., and only after confirming that they are safe and qualified can the operation be carried out.

6. It is strictly prohibited to weld or cut on the core load-bearing components in the diffusion area of ​​flammable and explosive gases, on the operating pressure pipelines and on the containers containing flammable and explosive items.

7. When the welding site is humid or the welder's clothes are wet due to sweating, it is strictly forbidden to lean on the live steel plate or workpiece. The welder should work on a dry insulating board or rubber pad, and personnel should wear insulating shoes or stand on an insulating board.

8. During welding, temporary grounding wire ends must not be left floating and must be fixed, pressed, and wrapped tightly with tape.

9. When changing the welding machine joints, reconnecting the secondary circuit, moving the welding machine, repairing faults, replacing fuses, or temporarily leaving the site, the power supply should be cut off.

10. When working at heights, you must wear a standard fire safety belt and tie it to a reliable structure.

11. A guardrail must be installed 5 meters below the work site and a dedicated person must be on guard. Flammable and explosive items must be cleared from the area below the work site.

12. Wear a helmet-type mask when working at height. The welding cable should be tied tightly in a fixed place and it is strictly forbidden to wrap it around the body or carry it on the back during operation. Welders should stand on a stable operating platform when working, and the welding machine must be placed stably and firmly and have a good grounding protection device.

13. It is strictly forbidden to hold the welding clamp under the armpit to move the workpiece to be welded or hang the welding cable around the neck during operation.

14. When welding, the secondary wires must be in place in pairs. It is strictly forbidden to use metal pipes, metal scaffolding, rails and structural steel bars as loop ground wires. The welding handle wire is not damaged and the insulation is good. The welding gun wire must be equipped with a welding machine electric shock protector.

15. When welding cables pass through roads, they must be elevated or other protective measures must be taken.

16. The welding gun wire must not be placed near the arc or the hot weld. The welding handle wire must not be rolled. Wear protective glasses or a mask when removing welding slag.

17. When leaving get off work, you must turn off the power, separate the welding wires and the ground wire, and make sure that the fire is extinguished before leaving the site.

Welding equipment:

1. The welding machine should be placed in a ventilated, dry place without corrosive media, away from high humidity, high heat and dust.

2. Before using the welding machine, the insulation and wiring must be checked, and the wiring parts must be tightly sealed with insulating tape. Not loose and not susceptible to moisture.

3. The electric welding machine must use a separate power switch and automatic power-off device. The length of the primary power cord should not be greater than 5 meters, and the length of the secondary welding handle cord should not be greater than 30 meters. The wiring on both sides should be crimped securely and a protective cover must be installed.

4. The welding machine casing must have grounding or zero protection. The welding cable of the electric welder must use multi-strand fine copper wire cable. The cable sheath should be intact and soft, and its insulation resistance should not be greater than 1MΩ. The welding machine should be kept clean.

5. After starting, the welding machine must run at no load for a period of time. The welding current and polarity switch should be adjusted under no-load. The no-load voltage of a DC welding machine shall not exceed 90V, and the no-load voltage of an AC welding machine shall not exceed 80V.
