Interferon for the treatment of melanoma

3. Adverse reactions of interferon:

① Fever: High fever often occurs after the first injection of treatment. Then it gradually eases or disappears; Cold-like syndrome: usually appears 2 to 4 hours after injection. There are fever, chills, fatigue, pain in the liver area, back pain and digestive system symptoms such as nausea, loss of appetite, diarrhea and vomiting. The symptoms gradually improve after 2 to 3 treatments. For cold-like syndrome, you can give antipyretic analgesics such as paracetamol 2 hours after the injection for symptomatic treatment without stopping the medication; or schedule the injection in the evening.

② Bone marrow suppression: leukopenia and thrombocytopenia occur, which usually recovers on its own after stopping the drug. During the treatment, white blood cells and platelets continue to decrease, and blood picture changes must be closely monitored. When the white blood cell count is <3.0×10^9/L or the neutrophil count is <1.5×10^9/L, or the platelet count is <40×10^9/L, the medication should be discontinued, and the patient should be closely observed, treated symptomatically, and pay attention to bleeding tendency. Treatment can be resumed after the blood count recovers. But it needs close observation.

③Nervous system symptoms: such as insomnia, anxiety, depression, excitement, irritability, and psychosis. If depression or psychotic symptoms occur, the medication should be discontinued. Rare side effects include epilepsy, nephrotic syndrome, interstitial pneumonia and arrhythmia. If these diseases and symptoms occur, the medication should be discontinued and observed.
