Is it normal to have 1 hour of deep sleep a day?

Everyone knows that as people age, the amount of sleep they need gradually decreases. But except for the elderly who often suffer from insomnia due to their deteriorating physical condition, even adults need eight hours of sleep a day. During the eight hours of sleep, about half of the time should be spent in deep sleep, so that people can have sufficient energy. So, is it normal to have 1 hour of deep sleep a day?

During deep sleep, the human cerebral cortex cells are in a state of full rest, which is extremely important for stabilizing emotions, balancing mentality, and restoring energy. At the same time, the human body can produce many antibodies to enhance disease resistance. Studies have shown that the beginning of normal sleep consists of two parts: non-rapid eye movement sleep (NREM) and rapid eye movement sleep (REM). The NREM part can be divided into four stages according to the different brain wave components. The first two stages are light sleep, accounting for about 50% of the total sleep time, and the last two stages are deep sleep, accounting for about 25% of the total sleep time. The remaining 25% of the time is rapid eye movement sleep time.

If you have a normal schedule and sleep schedule, go to bed around 10:30 and sleep for 8 hours, then the deep sleep time is 2 hours. The time period with the most deep sleep is around 2 or 3 in the morning. Falling asleep before this time can basically guarantee sufficient deep sleep (provided that you often fall asleep at this time). If you fall asleep after 3 or 4 o'clock, REM sleep will account for the vast majority (mainly manifested as dreaming), then no matter how long you sleep afterwards, the deep sleep time will be insufficient. The 3 hours of sleep are very important.
