How to clean fresh mushrooms

Fresh shiitake mushrooms are delicious and have high nutritional value. They are a kind of edible fungus that many people like to eat. There are many wrinkles inside the mushroom cap, which often hide some dirt, so you must clean them carefully before use. The cleaning method is also relatively simple. First, soak them in warm water, which will help soak out the dirt, and then wash them carefully.

How to clean mushrooms

First, when you buy shiitake mushrooms from the supermarket, choose those with thick caps and short legs.

Second, put the mushrooms into a basin and pour in an appropriate amount of water to completely soak the mushrooms.

Third, there are many small particles in the folds of the mushroom cap, which is why it is difficult to wash the mushrooms clean. Add 2-3 spoons of starch to clean water to make the dry starch completely dissolve in the clean water.

Fourth, stir the mushrooms in the basin several times in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction with your hands. The purpose of stirring is to allow the starch water to enter the mushroom cap. When the folds of the mushroom cap open, the dirt will be brought out along with the water.

Fifth, take out the mushrooms and check whether there are any small black particles inside the mushroom cap. See if it is very clean. Check whether all the mushrooms are clean.

Sixth, finally put the mushrooms in clean water and wash them again to make them thoroughly clean.

How to choose high-quality fresh shiitake mushrooms

1. Smell them first. Some unscrupulous vendors will soak mushrooms in formaldehyde to keep them fresh. If the mushrooms have an unpleasant odor, you should definitely not buy them.

2. Look at the cap. The mushroom is round, the flesh is thick, and the cap is rolled down.

3. Look at the size. It should not be too big or too small. The cap should be 3 to 6 cm.

4. Check the gills. The white part should be regular and neat, the surface should not be sticky, and there should be no mold spots.

5. Look at the stem. A short and thick stem is better. It should be uniform in size and feel hard when held in the hand. Some merchants deliberately do not cut the stems of mushrooms in order to increase weight. A short stalk is more economical for consumers, after all, it is the cap part that they eat.

6. The normal color of shiitake mushrooms is yellow-brown. If they are black in color, feel moist and slippery to the touch, or break when pressed, or the edges of the cap fall off easily, then they are no longer fresh and cannot be eaten. Don't buy.
