Are palm lines hereditary?

There are lines on the palms. These lines seem to be of no use, but they are of great use to people. The lines can enhance the gripping ability of the palms, prevent objects from falling from the hands, etc. Therefore, the importance of palm lines cannot be ignored. Everyone's palm lines are different. This is formed congenitally. Let's take a look at whether palm lines are inherited? I hope everyone can understand it.

Palm lines are hereditary, including normal line inheritance and pathological line inheritance.

1. Inheritance of normal lines Normal lines include three main lines and derivative lines generated from each other. The length, curvature, texture, and branch shape of the three main lines all show similarities in the hands of people with close blood relations, and may even be identical. The palm of your hand also shows a family genetic tendency. This type of inheritance can be either indirect or direct, and it is common to see several people of the same generation having this type of palm lines.

2. Inheritance of pathological lines Pathological lines of certain diseases can appear on the hands of close blood relatives at the same time. This pathological pattern can be expressed as either recessive or dominant inheritance. Diabetes is a genetic disease. In a diabetic family, pathological lines can be seen on the hands of people of different generations at the same time. Once external factors (environment, diet, etc.) become the cause of diabetes, this genetic disease will occur. When studying recessive and dominant inheritance patterns, it was discovered that palm lines can be inherited from previous generations; similar pathological lines such as cholecystitis and tumors can often be seen between grandparents and grandchildren.

The formation of palm lines is related to embryonic development. Dermatoglyphics begin to develop in the thirteenth week of embryogenesis and are formed around the nineteenth week. The dermal papillae of the skin protrude toward the epidermis, forming many neat papillary lines (also called ridges), with many sunken grooves formed between the ridges. The ridges and grooves constitute fingerprints and palm prints. Fingerprints are fixed at birth and remain unchanged throughout life, whereas palm lines may rise, fall, disappear or grow with age, experience, living environment, eating habits and disease status.

In addition to the above reasons, the formation of texture in the embryonic period is also related to the hand gripping posture of the fetus in the womb and the pressure generated. When the fetus is in the womb, with its hands clenched, the three main lines of wrinkles will become deep and long; if the five fingers are spread out into a palm shape, the three main lines will become shallow or intermittent.
