What are the symptoms of eating disorders?

Food is the necessary nutritional basis for people's survival, and people must eat enough food to obtain energy. Some people do not want to eat or eat very little food for various reasons. This phenomenon is called eating disorder. Eating disorders can cause serious harm to people's health. What are the symptoms of eating disorders? I hope everyone can understand.

Eating disorders are a group of syndromes characterized by abnormal eating behavior. This group of diseases mainly includes anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa, which are mental disorders. The main feature of anorexia nervosa is that the patient intentionally causes low weight through various methods such as dieting and refuses to maintain the minimum standard weight; while the main feature of bulimia nervosa is repeated binge eating and inappropriate offsetting behaviors after binge eating, such as vomiting, abuse of diuretics or laxatives, dieting or excessive exercise.

Clinical manifestations:

a. Subjective binge eating: Patients with anorexia nervosa often set strict eating plans for themselves. When they eat more than planned, they will complain of "binge eating". This symptom is called "subjective binge eating."

b. Fear of being fat: The fear of being fat among patients with eating disorders is significantly different from that among normal people. The upper limit of weight they set for themselves is lower than the lower limit of normal weight.

Eating disorders often occur during adolescence or after adolescence. Individuals during this period are in a critical period of developing their own abilities, especially academic performance, which is often the most concerning issue for patients and their families. Since this is a critical period of learning, many parents and patients choose to delay seeking medical treatment, or turn their attention to studies as soon as the disease shows some improvement.

Eating disorders themselves are a sign of hindered growth and are also a task that must be completed in the growth process. Living with an eating disorder and the growth you gain from overcoming it is well worth the time and effort you put into it. Therefore, patients should face this problem actively and solve eating disorders in a timely manner.
