Wireworms are a type of pest, and are the larvae of the snapping beetle. It is widely distributed and can harm many crops, such as corn and wheat, and is also quite harmful to some trees and traditional Chinese medicinal materials. This type of larvae often feed on the underground rhizomes, so pesticides should be used in time to kill the wireworms, such as chlorpyrifos, chlorpyrifos and other pesticides. Let's take a look at this aspect.
(1) Rotate crops with rice or irrigate frequently during the peak period of wireworm activity to suppress damage. (2) For soil treatment before planting, you can use 200 ml/mu of 48% dichlorvos emulsifiable concentrate, mix it with 10 kg of fine soil and spread it in the planting ditch. You can also mix the pesticide with farmyard manure and apply it. (3) If wireworms occur during the growth period, you can dig small holes between the seedlings, apply granules or poisoned soil into the holes and cover them immediately. When the soil is dry, you can also dilute 48% dichlorvos emulsifiable concentrate to 2000 times the original concentration, dig trenches or holes and water them. (4) Seed dressing with pesticides: Mix seeds with 50% phoxim, 48% chlorpyrifos or 48% chlorpyrifos, and 48% chlorpyrifos. The ratio of pesticide: water: seeds is 1:30-40:400-500.(5) Application of poisonous soil. Use 48% chlorpyrifos emulsifiable concentrate at 200-250g per mu, 50% chlorpyrifos emulsifiable concentrate at 200-250g per mu, add 10 times water, spray on 25-30kg of fine soil and mix well to make poisoned soil, apply along the ridges, and then shallowly hoe; use 5% methyl chlorpyrifos granules at 2-3kg per mu and mix with 25-30kg of fine soil to make poisoned soil, or use 5% methyl chlorpyrifos granules and 5% chlorpyrifos granules at 2.5-3kg per mu to treat the soil. (6) Deep plowing and frequent harrowing are required before planting, and deep plowing should be carried out in time after harvesting; plowing and exposure to the sun are required in summer. (7) Agricultural control methods: fine land preparation, timely sowing, reasonable crop rotation, elimination of weeds, timely early irrigation, timely tillage and weeding, creating an environment that is not conducive to the activity of wireworms and reducing the degree of crop damage.
Wireworms are a general term for the larvae of insects in the family Elateridae of the order Coleoptera. Most species damage seedlings and roots of crops, forests, and grasses. It is one of the important groups of underground pests. In my country, there are relatively more studies on adult classification. Liu Ganzhi recorded 166 species in "List of Chinese Beetle Species and Summary of Genera". Hu Jingfu recorded 174 species in his "Catalogue of Chinese Insects". Zhang Qi et al. focused on the harmful species of Chinese beetles. The research status and prospects of the family of Percivallicidae are described from the aspects of taxonomic flora, occurrence patterns and comprehensive control. Jiang Shihong et al. recorded 12 subfamilies, 64 genera and 168 species. |
