Can red wine be drunk cold?

Can red wine be drunk cold?

Red wine is a kind of wine made from grapes. The taste of red wine is more unique, and because the alcohol content of red wine is not very high, it is not easy to get drunk. More and more people like to drink red wine. Many people like to chill red wine before drinking it when the weather is hot. This not only makes it cooler, but also makes it more comfortable to drink. So, can red wine be drunk chilled?

1. Chilling temperature and chilling time

The most suitable chilled temperature for red wine is 10 degrees Celsius to 15 degrees Celsius. Too low a chilling temperature will destroy the body and flavor of the wine. How long should it be refrigerated? You can put it in the refrigerator for about 45 minutes before drinking. For super chilled red wine, you can take it out 10 to 15 minutes before drinking. If you don't want to go through so much trouble, you can also put the red wine in an ice bucket and drink it after 6 to 7 minutes.

2. Choice of iced type

The question is: what kind of red wine is suitable for chilling? Light-bodied red wines with lower tannins and higher acidity are the best choice for light chilling. Generally speaking, most people would choose chilled red wines with rich fruity and floral aromas, but in fact, red wines with earthy and herbal flavors can also bring surprises after being chilled. When it comes to grape variety selection, you can’t go wrong with Pinot Noir and Gamay from Beaujolais; in addition, the Loire Valley is also known for its wines from the Loire Valley.

Cabernet Franc from the Campania Valley, Barbera from Piedmont and Zweigelt from Austria are also good choices.

People who prefer full-bodied red wines may ask, can't I chill my favorite red wine? You can certainly do this, but be sure to choose a red wine with less tannin. This is because in addition to highlighting the fruitiness and acidity of the wine, chilling it will also make the tannins dry and unpleasant. In this case, full-bodied, low-tannin, and fruity Zinfandel and Malbec are the first choice.

If you want to try a chilled Barolo or Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon,

Sauvignon), it is better to use an ice bucket, or chill it for 15 minutes before drinking. This will slightly chill the wine while preventing the tannins from becoming unpleasantly drying.
