Spitting blood at breakfast

Spitting blood at breakfast

We all know that when we wake up every morning, we will feel that there is a foreign object in our throat, and we will want to cough out the phlegm in our throat, especially when brushing our teeth. We may even feel a little nauseous. In fact, this phenomenon is mostly caused by the strong liver fire and lung fire. Some people even find some blood in their spit. So what should we do if there is blood in the spit in the morning?

Blood in sputum is very common in clinical practice. Bleeding from any part of the body, from the oral cavity, nasal cavity, pharynx to the trachea and bronchi, can cause blood in sputum. Moreover, due to the complexity of the above-mentioned parts, there are many reasons that can cause bleeding. Generally, people under 40 years old tend to consider benign causes, while people over 40 years old should undergo more detailed examinations to rule out malignant diseases.

Distinguish whether it is in the nasal cavity, trachea, or oral cavity. Most of the mucus coming from the nasal cavity is exhaled by sucking it back into the mouth. Those coming from the trachea and bronchi are coughed out. When you wake up in the morning, don't cough or sniff your nose, but spit out some saliva to see if there is any blood? If so, it means the blood comes from the mouth. At this time, you can check whether the teeth and gums are bleeding.

If not, it may be coming from the nasal cavity or snow tube. First, you can go to the ENT department to check the nasal cavity and nasopharynx, paying special attention to the nasopharynx, then check the throat to see if there is bleeding, coagulation, or diseases that can cause bleeding, and finally check the lungs, trachea, and bronchi, eliminating the problems step by step. There are many reasons for blood in sputum. Common ones are;

(1) Bronchial diseases, such as bronchiectasis, chronic tracheitis, bronchial lung cancer, etc.

(2) Lung diseases, such as tuberculosis, pneumonia, etc.

(3) Cardiovascular diseases, such as pulmonary congestion caused by mitral valve stenosis.

(4) Blood diseases and certain acute infectious diseases. If middle-aged and elderly people have unexplained blood in their sputum, especially accompanied by an irritating cough, it is often a precursor to bronchial lung cancer. The cancerous tissue is rich in blood vessels, and the irritating cough caused by cancer often leads to rupture of capillaries and the appearance of blood in the cough, which is characterized by intermittent and repeated coughing with a small amount of blood in sputum, and often more blood than sputum. If the tumor infiltrates larger blood vessels, massive hemoptysis often occurs after rupture.
