How to cut off thick onychomycosis

How to cut off thick onychomycosis

Onychomycosis means that the surface of the nail is no longer smooth and some nail diseases appear. For example, some people will have thickened nails or nail lesions, and black color will appear inside the nails. Onychomycosis needs to be constantly reduced so that the thickened onychomycosis can be cut in half. So how should onychomycosis be treated?

Onychomycosis is caused by microbial infection of pathogenic fungi, mostly caused by the spread of athlete's foot. Onychomycosis initially causes abnormal nail color and shape, mostly grayish white, and loses its luster. The disease usually begins with 1-2 nails. It starts from the end or both sides of the toenail, then spreads to the root. After that, the tip of the nail and the surrounding area turn white, the surface layer of the front end of the toenail separates from the bottom layer, and the middle layer becomes thicker and thicker. The nail body is very brittle and falls off like powder. Then it gradually deforms, turns yellow-brown and dull, and finally the entire toenail is eroded, detaches from the muscle and lifts up. In severe cases, the toenail may even fall off.

Is onychomycosis treatable?

There are many methods for treating onychomycosis on the market, such as oral antifungal drugs, topical ointments, surgical nail removal, etc. These are very common methods. However, they all have some drawbacks, and they only treat the symptoms and not the root cause, so the treatment effect is not obvious. Onychomycosis is a contagious disease that not only seriously affects the appearance of the skin, but also brings many inconveniences to life. Onychomycosis should be treated in a timely manner.

How should I treat onychomycosis?

1. Packaging and cutting method. Apply Hanfu Tekang ointment on the affected nail and seal it, then cut it after it softens. The deformed and thickened nail plate that has been invaded by fungi should be shaved, that is, the thickened, brittle, uneven or gray-white spotted nail plate should be removed to allow the antifungal drug to take effect directly. This method generally does not cause bleeding, is not easy to get infected, rarely causes disease, and has no side effects. It can remove the nail scraps remaining on the nail bed in a short period of time. This is also a treatment for onychomycosis.

2. Oral medication. This is the simplest treatment for onychomycosis. Simply taking antifungal drugs, such as griseofulvin, itraconazole, terbinafine (Lanmycin), fluconazole, etc., has significant therapeutic effects and is convenient. However, when taken orally, this type of herb must reach the diseased nail where the fungus is parasitic in order to exert its antibacterial effect. Therefore, the medication time is relatively long. For onychomycosis of the nail, it needs to be taken for 3 months, and for toenail onychomycosis, it needs to be taken for about 6 months. Oral medications for the treatment of onychomycosis have side effects and should be used with caution in children. They are contraindicated in pregnant women and those with abnormal liver function.

3. Stripping method. It can be used in combination with local and systemic therapies, which are divided into chemical and surgical methods. The former mainly uses urea ointment, and some people also use carbon dioxide laser treatment to burn and peel off the nail plate. After the nail bed heals, topical antifungal agents are applied. Alternatively, multiple holes can be made on the nail plate to touch the hyperkeratotic tissue, and then external medications can be applied.

4. Surgical nail removal. This is a common treatment for onychomycosis. Under local anesthesia, the affected nail is removed. This method is effective quickly, but it causes large wounds and is prone to bleeding or infection. Surgery is generally painful and the results are sometimes unsatisfactory. Patients with heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, etc. should not undergo surgical treatment for onychomycosis.
