What are the clinical manifestations of tracheal diverticulum

When there is a problem with the human trachea, it can cause breathing difficulties and may also cause some diseases. This phenomenon will seriously affect the patient's life and work. In fact, the incidence of tracheal diverticula will also increase. The main cause of tracheal diverticula is cystic lesions, or some external factors, etc. So what are the clinical manifestations of tracheal diverticula?

First, what are the clinical manifestations of tracheal diverticulum? Tracheal diverticulum or cyst is relatively rare, with an incidence rate of 1% in autopsy reports. It most commonly occurs in the right area of the trachea and can be divided into congenital and acquired. Congenital cysts are small and contain respiratory epithelial cells, smooth muscle, and cartilage. Acquired cysts are larger and contain only respiratory epithelial cells. Congenital cysts are thought to be caused by defects in the development of tracheal cartilage. Acquired cysts are thought to be associated with long-term increased airway pressure, such as chronic cough.

Second, for tracheal diverticulum, the main thing is to prevent infection. Pay attention to respiratory health care, wear a mask when going out, do not eat spicy and irritating foods, avoid contact with tobacco and alcohol, and drink more water to promote respiratory mucosal metabolism.

Third, tracheal diverticulum is a relatively rare benign tracheal disease. Most patients have no obvious symptoms, and the disease is often discovered accidentally during physical examinations or diagnosis and treatment of other diseases. Some patients may experience symptoms of chronic inflammation of the trachea and bronchus, such as cough, hemoptysis, and dyspnea. Some people may also have compression symptoms, such as difficulty swallowing, stridor, and foreign body sensation in the neck. If the recurrent laryngeal nerve is compressed, it may also cause difficulty in speaking. If the patient has the above symptoms, it is recommended to go to a regular hospital for diagnosis and treatment.

Fourth, tracheal diverticulum is a cystic lesion that affects the trachea and main bronchi due to various reasons and protrudes outside the tracheal and bronchial cavity. It is generally the same size as the trachea, which is equivalent to a blind end of the trachea bulging out. Generally, if the symptoms are mild or absent, no treatment is given. However, if infection occurs, it is difficult to cure completely and affects breathing, and surgical removal is required.

What are the clinical manifestations of tracheal diverticulum? Most patients have no symptoms. When symptoms occur, chronic cough, dyspnea, wheezing or recurrent episodes of tracheobronchitis are common. Symptoms of dysphagia, odynophagia, and choking have also been described.
