Is the soft tissue density shadow a tumor? Four points to tell you

The imaging diagnosis of soft tissue tumors is an important basis for judging tumors. Soft tissue tumors are a large class of heterogeneous tumors, which refer to tumors occurring in fibrous tissue, adipose tissue, smooth muscle tissue, mesothelial tissue, blood vessels and lymphatic vessels. So, are soft tissue density shadows tumors?

According to the biological behavior of soft tissue tumors, they are divided into four categories: benign, intermediate (locally invasive), intermediate (occasionally metastatic), and malignant.

1. Most benign tumors do not recur, and complete local excision can almost cure the disease;

2. Intermediate (locally invasive): often with local recurrence, accompanied by local infiltration and destruction, but no metastasis, such as aggressive fibromatosis, atypical fatty tumor/well-differentiated liposarcoma, etc.

3. Intermediate (occasionally metastatic) invasive growth, occasional distant metastasis (﹤2%), usually metastases to lymph nodes and lungs, seen in solitary fibrous tumors (mostly hemangiopericytoma), inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors, etc.

4. Malignant tumors are also called soft tissue sarcomas. In addition to local destructive growth and recurrence, they can also metastasize to distant sites. Most metastasis rates are 20-100%. The rate of distant metastasis increases with the degree of malignancy, such as myxoid fibrosarcoma, leiomyosarcoma, etc.
