How to treat gingival atrophy?

Gingival atrophy is a common dental disease, and its symptoms are generally swollen and painful gums, bleeding gums, abscesses on the gums, etc. Once you get it, gingival atrophy has a great impact on your life. There will be pain when eating and drinking, and it is easy to bleed, resulting in a fishy smell in the mouth. So how to treat gingival atrophy?

Gingival fistula is a common dental disease. It is mainly caused by long-term apical periodontitis forming inflammatory fistulas in the gums. Generally speaking, root canal treatment is divided into three times, the first one is to kill the nerve. If the inflammation is severe, an additional open treatment or root canal sealing and observation will be performed. The second root canal preparation, sealing and disinfection, and the third root canal filling can be performed after the fistula disappears.

Treatment/gingival fistula

Long-term infected root canals are often complicated by fistulas in oral clinical treatment, which is difficult to treat. Often, after multiple root canal dressing changes and follow-up visits, satisfactory clinical results cannot be achieved, leading to extraction or apical resection.

Orthodontic treatment

Orthodontic treatment is one of the important methods of comprehensive treatment of periodontitis. It can help the recovery and healing of periodontal tissues by repositioning loose and displaced teeth, changing the long axis of the teeth and the direction of force, and eliminating traumatic bite forces.

1. Indications

①Align crowded and misaligned teeth to facilitate plaque control;

② Deep overbite of anterior teeth;

③Pathological fan-shaped displacement and gaps of anterior teeth;

④ The posterior teeth tilt toward the mesial side, forming deep subbone pockets. Through orthodontic treatment, they can be uprighted and the deep mesial pockets can also be eliminated.

2. Contraindications

①Untreated periodontitis;

② Despite treatment, inflammation still exists, plaque is not controlled, and the disease is still in the active stage;

③The alveolar bone absorption of the affected tooth has exceeded 1/2 of the root length.

Periodontal splint

At present, periodontal splints are commonly used clinically to fix loose teeth, disperse occlusal forces, and improve patients' chewing function. They connect multiple loose teeth together or fix loose teeth on healthy teeth to form a new chewing unit.

According to the length of use, periodontal splints can be divided into temporary splints and permanent splints. Permanent splints include: fixed permanent splints, removable permanent splints, fixed and removable combined splints (telescopic crowns), etc. Compared with temporary splints, permanent splints can play a good splint stabilizing effect, fix loose teeth, disperse occlusal forces, reduce the load on periodontal tissues, and ultimately achieve the purpose of tissue healing and repair.
