Ovarian cancer patients need to be alert to cancer recurrence after surgery

Aunt Zhang is 52 years old and is a skilled worker in a cotton mill. During a gynecological examination organized by the company one year ago, it was found that Aunt Zhang had ovarian problems. After a detailed examination, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Because it was discovered early, Aunt Zhang's surgery was very successful. As a middle-aged woman with elderly parents and young children, the family pressure is very high. After a period of recuperation, Aunt Zhang returned to work. However, in the past half month, Aunt Zhang always didn't want to eat, felt nauseous, and had a feeling of falling in her lower abdomen, but her waistline was increasing day by day. The doctor in the gastroenterology department felt that Aunt Zhang's condition was not good and recommended that she go to the oncology department. The diagnosis result was a recurrence of ovarian cancer.

When ovarian cancer recurs, patients may experience lower abdominal discomfort or falling, increased abdominal circumference, abdominal enlargement and pain, or menstrual disorders, vaginal bleeding, etc. Cancer invasion of the digestive tract may cause anorexia, nausea, vomiting, flatulence, and indigestion, which may lead to weight loss over time. Occasionally, ovarian cancer may manifest as vaginal bleeding; fluid accumulates in the abdominal cavity to form ascites, and patients may feel bloated; fluid may also accumulate on all sides of the lungs, causing shortness of breath.

Many cancer patients think that everything will be fine after the tumor is removed surgically, but this is not the case. Due to factors such as failure to find small tumors in time during surgery or severe ovarian cancer, ovarian cancer is likely to recur after surgery. According to statistics, about 80% of patients experience this situation. Since the treatment of cancer recurrence is more difficult, patients must not take it lightly. No matter what treatment method is used, they should go for regular checkups after a period of recuperation to consolidate the therapeutic effect and rule out the possibility of recurrence and metastasis, so as not to delay the complete recovery of the disease.
