Disadvantages of picking a tooth's nerve

As the saying goes, toothache is not a disease, but it can be fatal. We all know that sometimes toothache is caused by the dental nerve. When it hurts, even the cerebral cortex will feel pain. You must see a dentist in time, otherwise the dental nerve will become necrotic and you can only remove it. Once the dental nerve is removed, the tooth will no longer be nourished and will slowly fall off on its own. You can only replace it with a denture.

The main hazards that may be caused are:

1. Tooth discoloration

The dental nerve and accompanying blood vessels in the pulp are connected to the tooth and bone. When the dental nerve becomes necrotic, the teeth will lose their source of nutrition and will change color. In severe cases, it can also cause inflammation of the surrounding bones.

2. Damage to the stability of teeth

In addition to destroying the dentin and causing great pain to the patient, dead pulp teeth can also cause the teeth to loosen, crack, or even fall out due to the loss of nutrition.

Treatment of dead teeth

Doctors at the dentistry clinic recommend that dead teeth should be extracted only if the tooth is broken below the gums, otherwise they should be retained as much as possible. Generally, root canal treatment is done first, followed by a crown.

1. Root canal treatment

Clean the necrotic pulp tissue, otherwise even if there is no problem at present, apical inflammation may occur in the future. Root canal bleaching can be performed while performing root canal treatment, but it is not necessary if you are preparing to have a porcelain crown. The cost of this treatment in a regular tertiary-level A hospital is generally around two hundred yuan, depending on the specific condition of the affected tooth.

Note: Root canal treatment can eliminate inflammation in time, but it cannot restore the nutrition supply of the teeth, and the teeth will still change color.

2. Oxidant bleaching method

After root canal treatment eliminates the infection and color source around the diseased tooth, the next step is to discolor it to achieve the purpose of whitening. The principle of discoloration is that enamel and dentin have a fixed microporous structure and permeability, so they have a side that may discolor. The method is to fill the root canal with a color-treated root canal and then seal the bleaching agent in the pulp chamber, which enters the tooth tissue through the parenchymal tubules to achieve the purpose of bleaching.

For a long time, strong oxidant bleaching method has been used to decolorize the teeth. Studies have found that if teeth bleached with strong oxidants show absorption at the cervical end of the teeth, it is because the dentinal tubules exude and damage the periodontal tissue. After verification by some other methods, it is found that sealing the pulp chamber with a decolorizing agent is the most effective method.

3. Porcelain crown

Porcelain crown restoration can be performed about one week after complete root canal treatment. First, prepare the treated tooth. Simply put, grind the whole tooth smaller and into a certain shape, take a mold (bite mark), and send it to the processing center. After a certain period of time (about a week, depending on the workload of the processing center), you can wear the tooth. Porcelain veneers are a very effective and popular method of teeth whitening, and they have the advantages of being stable, durable, realistic, and discomfort-free. There are many types of porcelain, including non-precious metal porcelain teeth and precious metal porcelain teeth, giving patients a lot of room to choose. If you have high requirements for aesthetics, you can also choose all-ceramic teeth.

It is best for the patient to tell the doctor the specific treatment plan that is most suitable, and then the doctor will develop the best treatment plan based on the condition. It is recommended that this type of dental treatment be performed in a regular dental hospital.
