What to do if cervical spondylosis affects sleep

Good sleep can ensure a refreshed mental state. If you don’t get enough rest, it will easily affect your life and work. When we are young, we always use youth as an excuse to not pay attention to physical health. We often watch mobile phones and surf the Internet. Over time, we are prone to cervical spondylosis. The obvious symptoms of cervical spondylosis are pain, poor sleep, and it will also affect the mental state. So what should we do?

Good sleep can eliminate fatigue, restore physical strength, protect the brain, promote growth and development, delay aging, rehabilitate the body, and enhance immunity.

In this state, the damage to the cervical spine caused by daily study, work and life can be repaired through sleep. But in real life, many people's cervical vertebrae not only fail to repair themselves through sleep, but the damage is aggravated after sleep. How could this be the case? Because in order to get good sleep quality, good subjective and objective conditions are required. You need to have good sleeping habits, a good sleeping environment, and suitable sleeping equipment - pillows and mattresses.

Now, let's talk about the relationship between pillows and sleep, and even recovery from cervical spine injuries:

Think about it carefully: there are two correct postures for people to sleep, one is lying on your back and the other is lying on your side. When you lie on your back, your head has two support points: the back of the head and the neck; when you lie on your side, your cheek serves as a support point. Moreover, the heights of these three support points are different. The back of the head is the shortest; then, the neck is slightly higher than the back of the head; the height difference between the cheeks and shoulders is the largest, and the height of the cheek as a support point should also be a little higher. In addition, the hardness and softness of these three support points are also different. The back of the head is less sensitive and is not afraid of hardness, so it is better to have a harder support for this place; the cervical spine needs a certain amount of support but it is not the main support, so its hardness should be softer than the back of the head, because the neck cannot bear it if it is too hard, so just support it; what about the cheeks? It is the place that is most afraid of hardness, so this place requires the highest comfort and should be softer than the neck.

The reason why we fail to relax and rest our cervical spine when we sleep and repair the damage caused by a day's fatigue is that, instead, the damage to the cervical spine is aggravated. First, the height of the pillow we use cannot meet the needs of our physiological curve when we sleep, and it distorts our physiological curve (if it is too high, the neck will bend upward, and if it is too low, it will bend downward); second, the hardness cannot meet the requirements of our three supporting parts. Without good and proper support, the physiological curve is distorted, and the cervical spine, which should be relaxing and resting during sleep, has to bear the burden of supporting or pulling the head, thereby increasing the burden on the cervical spine and accelerating the pathology of the cervical spine.

Therefore, we need a pillow like this: it must have three different heights to adapt to the physiological curve requirements of different sleeping postures and ensure the correct physiological curve when we sleep. There should be three different levels of softness and hardness to adapt to the support and comfort requirements of different sleeping postures, ensure the correct physiological curve when sleeping, and have good and appropriate support and good and appropriate comfort.

From the above analysis, we can conclude that:

If a pillow can meet and adapt to the different heights of the three support points when we sleep, ensure our correct physiological curve, and keep our neck from bending when we sleep, it can repair the damage caused by a day's study, work, and life, and alleviate and correct our previous cervical spine problems.

If a pillow can satisfy and adapt to the support and comfort of different postures when we sleep (if it is soft, there is no support, the head will feel suspended, and the neck will pull on the head; if it is hard, it will be uncomfortable and affect sleep), let the pillow fully bear the weight of our head, so that our neck does not need to bear the force to support the head, then our cervical spine will be relaxed, which can alleviate and correct our previous injuries to the cervical spine and treat our cervical spine!

Solving the problem of pillows affecting our sleeping height, support and comfort will definitely improve our sleep quality. With improved sleep quality, "physiotherapy of the cervical spine in sleep" is no longer a fantasy for us!

The so-called happy life is the superposition of many pleasant little elements of life. Sleep occupies more than one-third of our life. Does having a pleasant sleep help us realize a happy life?

Sometimes happiness only needs a very low starting point and can be achieved without the cooperation of others. It only needs a pillow and mattress that suit you!
