The golden apple snail is large in size, has a wide range of diets, is highly adaptable, grows and reproduces quickly, and has a high yield. It is farmed throughout China. Eating insufficiently heated golden apple snails may cause infection with parasites such as Angiostrongylus cantonensis in the human body. Eating raw or undercooked golden apple snails can cause infection, which can cause symptoms such as headache, fever, and neck stiffness. In severe cases, it can lead to dementia or even death. Therefore, when eating golden apple snails, be sure to heat them thoroughly.

Living habits

Golden apple snails like to live in fresh water with fresh water quality and abundant food. They often live in groups in shallow water areas near ponds, or attach themselves to the stems and leaves of aquatic plants, or float on the water surface. They can live away from the water for a short time. The most suitable water temperature for growth is 25-32℃. When the temperature exceeds 35℃, the growth rate decreases significantly.

The water temperature is 45℃ and the minimum critical water temperature is 5℃. In large areas south of the Yangtze River, golden apple snails can overwinter naturally.

Prevention and treatment

1. Eliminate the source of overwintering snails. Golden apple snails mainly hibernate in streams, rivers and low-lying waterlogged areas of ditches. Therefore, it is necessary to clean the ditches beside rice fields before spring ploughing, remove silt and weeds, destroy the hibernation sites of the golden apple snails, and reduce the survival rate of the hibernating snails and the number of remaining snails after winter. At the same time, drugs are used for prevention and control in ditches and low-lying waterlogged areas.

2. Blocking the spread of the virus. In the downstream areas of the recurrent outbreak areas, barrier nets are installed at the entrances of irrigation channels or water inlets of rice fields to prevent golden apple snails from entering the fields with water.

(3) Artificial killing. During the peak egg-laying period in spring, combined with field management, egg masses in the fields and ditches are removed and taken away from the rice fields to feed ducks or the eggs are crushed. When drying fields, adult snails are mainly concentrated in the water inlets and outlets and the ditches of the rice fields, and are picked up manually in the morning and afternoon. The egg masses are removed manually and the snails are picked up during farming season. Biological control

The main biological control method is to raise ducks and eat snails. The time for releasing ducks is from 7 to 10 days after rice transplanting to the end of rice heading stage. Ducks (15 to 30 per mu) are released once every morning and afternoon at five or six o'clock to peck at young snails in rice fields and canals, thereby reducing the number of snails and minimizing damage.

1. Prevention and control indicators There are 1 to 2 rice heads/square meter in the rice seedling stage, and 1 egg mass/square meter at the edge of the field. There are 3 to 4 rice heads/square meter in the tillering stage, and 1 to 2 egg masses/square meter.

(2) Control agents. 10% snail-killing granules, 6% mida snail-killing granules, 50% snail-killing amine ethanolamine salt wettable powder, 70% snail-killing amine wettable powder, 45% triphenyltin acetate wettable powder, etc.

(3) Application period Apply the pesticide twice: 1. Apply the pesticide when the rice in the nursery field is at the 2-leaf and 1-heart stage. 2. Apply pesticides when transplanting. If the snail damage is serious, apply the pesticide again after 10 days.

(IV) Application method

The dosage of 10% Snail Granules is about 400-500 grams per mu, which can be evenly spread in the field or mixed with 5-10 kg of fine soil for application.

The dosage of 6% Mida snail-killing granules is about 400-550 grams per mu, which can be evenly spread in the field or mixed with 5-10 kg of fine soil for application.

Use 60g of 70% snailkill ethanolamine wettable powder per mu and mix with 20kg of water for spraying.

Note:

When applying the pesticide, the water layer in the field should be 1 to 3 cm, and the water should be retained for 7 days.

If it rains heavily within 24 hours after application, it is necessary to apply the pesticide again.

Snailicides are toxic to fish. Field water cannot be discharged into fish ponds for 7 days after application of the pesticide, and free-range ducks are also prohibited.
