How to practice singing and vocalization

Music is the best way to cultivate people's temperament and sentiment. Good music can make people feel the beauty of life and experience all kinds of life. Especially for those who love music or professional singers, they hope to make beautiful voices and their singing can linger in the ears. However, in real life, it is almost impossible for us to possess such ability innately, and it requires continuous learning to achieve it.

How to practice singing

1. Abdominal breathing

This is the most basic part of singing, and it is also what people generally call (singing with the dantian). Most people breathe using their chest. When they breathe, they can see the chest rise and fall. If you have the opportunity to observe a baby's breathing, you will find that the baby's abdomen rises and falls when breathing. This is called (abdominal breathing). The baby's cry is so loud, why? Because abdominal breathing can make the air pressure deeper, we can inhale more air, and the body has more space to resonate. It is very simple to practice abdominal breathing. There are two parts: one is to get used to using the abdomen to breathe; the other is to practice how to keep the air in the body. This may sound very general, but there are actually very simple methods that can be followed for practice. First, before singing each time, spend about 3-5 minutes doing breathing exercises; when inhaling, control the air to go into the stomach, and clearly see the movement of the stomach rising and falling. After that, try to inhale the air into your abdomen, hold your breath for about ten seconds, then start to exhale slowly, and practice taking as long as possible to exhale. When practicing this stage, you can also exhale forcefully in one breath when there is only a little air left, practicing both methods of breathing at the same time. In this way, you will naturally get used to using abdominal breathing when singing for a long time, and your breathing will be more stable. When practicing, in addition to relaxing your body, you can try pressing your abdomen with one hand to ensure that your dantian is exerting force. This is also one of the practical singing techniques.

2. Tips on using gas

The technique of using breath is actually closely related to abdominal breathing, and it just helps our body to use it more flexibly. A simple way to practice the breathing technique is to use abdominal breathing and keep the air in the stomach, and try to exhale intermittent air quickly in a regular and powerful manner. Every time you exhale, make sure to exert force from your Dantian; these forces are individual, rather than being exerted all at once from the beginning to the end. You can try putting one hand on your stomach. If you do it correctly, you will feel your stomach rise and fall with the rhythm of your exhalation. Once you have mastered abdominal breathing and breathing techniques, your singing will be quite stable, and even if you encounter a longer phrase, you will be able to sing it carefully and well. Or when breathing, it can be perfect, so it is very important. It is also crucial to use your breath correctly when singing.

3. Mouth shape

Practicing mouth shape is very important, and it can also help us achieve a more correct state of singing resonance. The first key point of mouth shape practice is to open your mouth wide enough! A more brutal method is to measure with the width of your finger. Generally, singing teachers will require that when singing the (ㄚ) note, at least three fingers wide (vertical height) should be used. I have personally even met teachers who required four fingers, which is really a hassle. However, this exercise will make you accustomed to opening your mouth wide. When practicing, you can also try touching the area between your ears and temples. If your mouth is big enough, you will feel a depression there. This is correct. Furthermore, it is very important to practice the five notes (A, E, I, O, U) and make sure your mouth is intact when pronouncing each note. You can imagine that you are singing with an invisible candy in your mouth, allowing your mouth to maintain a certain amount of space. This will make the tone rounder and better-sounding. In addition, you can design a simple scale to sing these five notes as practice, which will be more effective. If you practice your lip shape well, your singing and pronunciation will also improve. Although singing does not necessarily require clear enunciation and can have its own characteristics, the shape of the mouth can help with resonance and can also be used to express the emotions of the song and incorporate emotion into the singing! It's really important.
