What does a stye look like

Once a stye occurs, the patient will feel a little itchy, and even congestion inside the eye. Some patients will often shed tears when their eyes hurt, which will affect their vision. Then the patient should be careful not to rub his eyes with his hands, as this will allow more bacteria to enter the eyes, eventually causing the degree of eye inflammation to worsen.

At the beginning, the itching sensation gradually intensifies, the local eyelid edema and congestion occur, there is distending pain or pain when blinking, accompanied by tenderness, and a nodule can be felt near the eyelid margin. The pain is particularly significant in the lateral canthus, and the outer conjunctiva also becomes edematous. When the inflammation is severe, the upper or lower eyelid may become diffusely red and swollen. In mild cases, the nodules may disappear on their own with or without treatment, or they may gradually soften after 3 to 5 days.

There are yellow pus heads at the roots of the eyelashes. Once the pus breaks through the skin and is discharged outward, the redness and swelling will subside rapidly, and the pain will disappear as well. In severe cases, there is often enlargement and tenderness of the preauricular or submandibular lymph nodes. For those with strong virulence of the pathogen or weak systemic resistance, the inflammation can spread from one gland to other glands, forming multiple pus spots, which can develop into eyelid cellulitis, accompanied by systemic symptoms such as chills and fever.

At the beginning, the eyelids are slightly itchy and painful, and the skin near the eyelid chord is slightly red and swollen, followed by the formation of a localized nodule with tenderness, which is connected to the skin. If the lesion occurs near the lesser canthus, the redness, swelling and pain will be more severe, and may cause redness and swelling of the white of the eye in the lesser canthus. Some patients may have enlarged and tender preauricular or submandibular lymph nodes, and even systemic symptoms such as chills, fever, and headache.

Mild cases of the disease may disappear on their own within a few days. In severe cases, yellow-white pus heads shaped like wheat grains will appear near the eyelashes on the eyelid string after 3-5 days. When the ulcer breaks and pus comes out, the pain will subside and the swelling will disappear. If it occurs on the inner surface of the eyelid, the redness and pain are more severe, and local congestion inside the eyelid is common, with yellow pus spots appearing, which may burst on their own.

Stye is also known as earth ulcer, earth ulcer, stolen needle, stolen needle eye, stolen needle nest and eye needle. Commonly known as pearl wrapper and peach needle. There are two types of needle eyes: internal and external:

External stye refers to acute inflammation of the sebaceous glands or hair follicles at the root of the eyelashes.

It is characterized by localized redness, swelling, pain, small nodules, and tenderness of the eyelid. In severe cases, the entire eyelid becomes red and swollen, and the preauricular lymph nodes on the affected side are swollen and tender. After a few days, yellow pus spots appeared at the roots of the hair follicles, which soon burst and discharged pus. The symptoms disappeared and the patient recovered.

Internal stye refers to an acute suppurative inflammation of the meibomian glands in the eyelids. Its symptoms are similar to those of an external stye. However, because the inflammation is located in the relatively solid tarsal plate tissue, the pain is more severe and the inflammation lasts longer. After a few days, yellow pus spots appear on the surface of the tarsal conjunctiva, and finally the tarsal conjunctiva ruptures and pus is discharged. The inflammation gradually disappears and the disease is cured.

There are also categories:

① The symptoms of wind-heat ascending type of stye are itching, pain and discomfort on the eyelids at the beginning, which gradually become red and swollen. There are wheat-grain-sized nodules on the eyelid margins, which are tender to the touch, accompanied by headache, sore throat, red tongue with thin white coating, and floating and rapid pulse. The treatment should be to dispel wind and clear heat, and the prescription used can be Yinqiao Powder, etc.

② The symptoms of stye syndrome of spleen and stomach heat accumulation type are redness and swelling of the eyelids, hard and painful eyelid margins, gray-yellow pus spots on the new eyelids, swelling and pain in front of the ears, fever and constipation, red tongue with yellow coating, and rapid pulse. The treatment should be to clear away heat and detoxify, and the prescription used can be Qingpi San, etc.

For external treatment at the initial stage, you can apply golden ointment externally.
