Where is the throat located?

In daily life, people often have some discomfort symptoms in their throats. For example, sometimes the throat feels very dry, then itchy, and in severe cases, there will be pain. At the same time, the voice of the person will change, and normal speaking and eating will be hindered. Therefore, everyone must pay attention to the health protection of the throat. So where exactly is the human throat located?

Location of the throat:

Throat: name of an organ. ① "Pharynx" is the general name for the esophagus, which was later called the "gastric system". The larynx is the general name for the trachea and is also known as the "pulmonary system." "Lingshu·Sorrow and Anger Without Words" states: "The throat is the path for food and water; the larynx is where the qi goes up and down." "Leijing" Volume 21, Chapter 11: "Humans have two throats, one soft and one hard. The soft one is at the back, which is called the throat. It is the path for food and water, and it connects to the six organs. The hard one is at the front, which is called the larynx. It is the path for the vital energy to go in and out, so it allows breathing and connects to the five internal organs."② A general term for the pharynx and larynx. "Suwen Taiyin Yangming Lunpian" states: "The throat controls the heavenly air, and the pharynx controls the earthly air." "Leijing" states: "The throat is connected to the lungs, so it receives air and is connected to the sky; the pharynx is connected to the stomach, so it receives food and is connected to the earth."

"Lingshu" records that the Ren meridian "reaches the throat"; the Du meridian "enters the throat"; the Chong meridian and the Ren meridian "meet at the throat"; the hand Taiyang meridian "follows the throat"; the hand Shaoyin meridian, its branch: "goes up and holds the throat"; the foot Shaoyang meridian branch "goes up and holds the throat"; the foot Yangming meridian branch "goes up and follows the throat"; the foot Taiyin meridian branch "goes up and ends in the throat".

A term in traditional Chinese medicine. A general term for the pharynx and larynx. The cavity behind the oral and nasal cavity and above the esophagus is the pharynx; the cavity inside the laryngeal cavity near the upper end of the trachea is the larynx. The pharynx is responsible for the flow of food and water. It is the system of the stomach and the channel for the stomach qi. The throat is empty and controls the flow of air in and out of breathing. It is connected to the lungs and is the channel for lung qi. There are many meridians in the human body that run to the throat, so throat diseases may be related to lesions of certain internal organs and meridians, and are more closely related to the lungs and stomach.

Sore throat: Unable to swallow saliva or food, this is due to blockage of earth energy and is a sign of false fire. Su Zi Li Hou Tang with Schizonepeta tenuifolia and twice the amount of Platycodon grandiflorum and Scrophularia ningpoensis as the main ingredients, and Blowing Pearl Powder. The pharynx is the upper end of the stomach tube, and the larynx is the upper end of the lung tube. The pharynx and larynx are the main channels for the human body to breathe and eat. When the pain occurs, it is best to distinguish whether it is real or false. The so-called deficiency refers to the fire of the dragon and thunder in the lower part of the body; the excess refers to the evil of the six external pathogens. Excess syndrome is easy to treat, while deficiency syndrome is difficult to treat. Most of the sore throats caused by wind-heat are originally diseases of the lungs and stomach. The sides of the throat are red and swollen, commonly known as throat soreness. You should take medicines such as Belamcanda chinensis, Sophora flavescens, Arctium lappa, Puffball, Tianchong, Chanyi, Jinguolan, Menthus fragrans, Gardenia jasminoides, Forsythia suspensa, and Scutellaria baicalensis, and you will see relief immediately. If the throat is swollen and the patient cannot swallow food, it is advisable to blow on it with drugs such as Xihuang, borneol, and Indigo. You can also prick the swollen area with a silver needle and wait for the poisonous blood to be discharged. The pain and swelling will then disappear. Western medicine calls the swelling and pain on both sides of the throat tonsillitis, also known as tonsillitis. If the throat is swollen and painful with white rot, it was called rotten throat in ancient times, and is called diphtheria in Western medicine. This is caused by exogenous wind-heat, or Yangming damp fire fumigating the upper orifices, and is more dangerous than the previous symptom. You should use rhinoceros horn, honeysuckle, gypsum, Coptis chinensis, Rhizoma Cynomorii, fresh Isatis indigotica and other medicines, and add the aforementioned Belamcanda chinensis and other ingredients for treatment.

If you have a sore throat due to wind-cold or autumn dryness, and the redness and swelling of the throat are not obvious, only dryness and pain are felt, or you have a cough and a cold, you should use almonds, perilla leaves, mint, sterculia lychnophora, mulberry leaves, etc. However, if dry fire enters the lungs and causes pain, it is still advisable to use light, cooling and soothing medicines to treat it. As for those with yin deficiency and floating fire, and sore throat, the area is red but not swollen, and it is advisable to use American ginseng, Ophiopogon japonicus, Scrophularia ningpoensis, mulberry leaves, Belamcanda chinensis, Sophora flavescens, Trichosanthes kirilowii, Rehmannia glutinosa, Puffball, and Gardenia nigra. There is also throat numbness caused by Yin fire rising up. The sides of the throat are not red or swollen, but there are purple veins, and there is dry pain all the time. When swallowing water, the pain is unbearable. This is due to a great deficiency of kidney water, exhaustion of lung yin, and the dragon and thunder fire rising without control. There is no good medicine that can be used. It is recommended to nourish Yin and reduce fire, and lead the fire back to its source, in the hope of a cure. It is advisable to take Ophiopogon japonicus, American ginseng, Cordyceps sinensis, Danqiu stone, tortoise shell, oyster, Rehmannia glutinosa, pig skin, Huoshan dendrobium, swallow root, etc., and add three parts of cinnamon bark, and take it with rice and pills. If symptoms such as hemoptysis, hoarseness, and cough are present, it will be even more difficult to treat. The difference between the false and the real is as great as that between heaven and earth, so we must carefully distinguish them.
