How to deal with minor injuries

If there is a minor injury on your skin, many people don't care much about it, or even don't do any disinfection. This is very incorrect, because skin injuries are very easy for bacteria to take advantage of the opportunity to enter. In this case, you should disinfect it first, don't let any bacteria grow in the wound, and stop the bleeding. Finally, you need to bandage it to make your wound heal faster.

All kinds of injuries, regardless of their size or depth, must be treated promptly and correctly. If not handled properly, they will cause bleeding, infection, and suppuration. In severe cases, they may lead to tetanus, amputation, and even life-threatening. If the wound is treated correctly, it can heal quickly; otherwise, it may become infected and fester, take a long time to heal, and even be life-threatening due to complications such as systemic infection, gas gangrene, tetanus, etc. Therefore, traumatic wounds must be treated strictly and seriously. The principles of wound care are:

1. Disinfection: When wounds appear on the skin, its integrity is destroyed, and bacteria have an opportunity to invade. In order to reduce the invasion of bacteria, the wound must be carefully disinfected.

2. Stop bleeding: Stop bleeding in time according to the specific situation.

3. Bandaging: Proper bandaging of the wound can reduce bleeding, festering and pain. When tying, you should be quick, accurate, light and firm. Fast, the movements should be swift and agile; accurate, the parts should be accurate and strict; light, the movements should be light and not touch the wound; firm, the bandage should be firm and appropriate in tightness. The specific steps are:

(1) Generally, you can add edible salt to cold boiled water to make a 1% concentration of salt water and rinse the wound. If conditions permit, you can disinfect with iodine first and then alcohol, and wipe along the edge of the wound from the inside to the outside. Do not apply iodine or alcohol inside the wound. If there is a foreign object in the wound, it must be handled with caution. If it is large and easy to remove, it can be taken out; if it is deep and small and difficult to remove, do not force it to be removed, so as not to bring bacteria into the wound or increase bleeding.

(2) After flushing, you can apply some medicine on the surface of the wound. For small wounds, you can apply a little mercurochrome (red solution) or gentian violet on the superficial surface. For larger wounds, it is not advisable to apply the above medicines to avoid adding difficulties to the next step of treatment.

(3) Use sterile gauze or clean bandages, handkerchiefs, cloth strips, red cloth belts, etc. on the wound. Pay attention to the appropriate tightness when bandaging to avoid affecting blood circulation. Do not touch the wound directly with your hands. The bandage range should extend 5-10 cm beyond the edge of the wound and use a bandage (or triangular scarf) to bandage. Movement of exposed fracture ends can cause pain and continued injury.

When there is bulging of brain tissue in an open craniocerebral injury, or protruding of organs in an abdominal injury, do not apply pressure directly or force the organs back in. Instead, build a "wall" around the bulging or protruding tissue with gauze, towels, etc., cover it with a clean enamel bowl of suitable size or other protective vessel, and then bandage it in place. During transportation, if the abdomen is stretched, lie on your back with your knees bent to relax the abdomen. If the injury is to the brain, fix the head.
