What to do if the skin on your fingers peels

What to do if the skin on your fingers peels

Perhaps a large number of people are troubled by the symptom of peeling hands. Some people's hands will peel wildly in spring or summer, and the peeling areas will feel hot and painful. This may be caused by a lack of vitamin E in the body. Of course, it may also be because the hands have come into contact with something corrosive. Let’s take a look at what to do if your fingers are peeling.

Peeling of the skin on your fingers is the result of the stratum corneum of the epidermis separating from the underlying epidermis. At first, some small white spots appear on the palms, and then gradually expand to form dried blisters of varying sizes. A layer of whitish stratum corneum appears on the surface, which can naturally break and fall off like a layer of translucent thin paper.

If it continues to fall off, what will be left behind is a large area of pink new growth that looks like a map. If you tear it off without waiting for it to fall off naturally, bleeding and pain will occur. In addition to the palms, the same peeling can also occur on the toes.

1. Ringworm

A common cause of peeling of the hands is tinea manuum caused by fungal infection, which is often limited to one side. Peeling occurs first on one hand and then spreads to both hands. The palms appear erythematous, inflamed, and itchy, and most patients with tinea manuum also suffer from tinea pedis. The hyperkeratotic type is mainly characterized by excessive skin keratinization, roughness and lack of sweat, and cracking of the skin in the cold winter.

Various antifungal topical drugs are suitable for treatment, and oral antifungal drugs can be used in severe cases. Because tinea manuum is contagious, you need to go to the hospital for early diagnosis and treatment, and insist on applying the special ointment prescribed by the doctor.

2. Peeling

The white skin on both hands peels off, but there is no itching or inflammation. Doctors point out that this is the most common and most likely symptom of hand keratin exfoliation in early autumn. Although it affects appearance, it generally does not require treatment. It will heal on its own after 2-3 weeks as long as you avoid contact with irritating chemicals such as soap and hand sanitizer.

It can be combined with oral medication for treatment: soak 30 grams each of the Chinese medicine Atractylodes lancea, Phellodendron chinense, and Atractylodes lancea, apply them on the palms, and take vitamin C at the same time.

3. Keratolysis

This is a superficial exfoliative skin disease of the stratum corneum of the palms and soles. The cause is unknown. The skin lesions are initially white spots the size of millet, which gradually expand to the surrounding areas, similar to blister membranes with dried blister fluid. They can easily rupture naturally or be torn into thin paper-like scales. There are no obvious inflammatory changes and no itching.

Low-concentration keratin peels or mild lubricants can be used for treatment.

4. Dry dermatitis

The skin on both hands is peeling and there are cracks on the fingers. Dry peeling in early autumn is most common in young and middle-aged women and is related to frequent hand washing with soap. You should reduce the frequency of hand washing, avoid using alkaline soaps and hand sanitizers, and try to wear gloves when washing clothes. You can go to the hospital or pharmacy to buy antiseptic cleansing liquid such as Fu Kang Jie for external application.

5. Hand eczema

It often occurs on the back of the fingers and the palm of the fingertips, and can spread to the back of the hand and wrist. It has unclear boundaries or small flaky skin lesions, which often crack due to finger movements. It is often affected by secondary factors and is stubborn and difficult to treat. During treatment, various external stimuli should be avoided, such as scalding with hot water, violent scratching, excessive washing, etc. Antihistamines can be taken orally, corticosteroid preparations and tar preparations can be used externally.

6. Blood deficiency and blood dryness

Peeling of fingers may also be caused by blood deficiency and blood dryness, malnutrition of the skin, and dryness, heat and wind. The treatment should be to nourish the blood, moisten dryness, dispel wind and relieve itching.

7. Dyshidrosis

Red blisters appeared on both hands at the same time, with severe itching. Dyshidrotic eczema is related to sweaty hands and sensitive constitution, and requires topical or oral medication under the guidance of a doctor.

8. Chemical damage

Chemical insults can also cause contact dermatitis, which can lead to peeling of the skin on your fingers.

9. Skin malnutrition

The beauty and maintenance of the palms are most easily overlooked. You should know that the palms not only have many sweat glands, but are also the place that is most likely to get dirty and have a bad smell. At this time, you can wipe your palms with the juice from the hot strips to make them smooth and refreshed. You should soak your hands in warm water more often and apply some oily skin care products. If your fingers are already infected, you should use ointment containing antibiotics appropriately.

Apply enzyme compresses or rub the back of your hands with lemon slices at least two or three times a week. This will not only eliminate roughness, but also make the skin look shiny, especially when done while bathing.
