Keep running to cure neurasthenia

Due to the pressure of work and study, many people are in a sub-healthy state, and neurasthenia is one of the important manifestations. People with neurasthenia often have poor sleep and work. To treat neurasthenia, many doctors, in addition to prescribing medication, also recommend that patients pay more attention to physical exercise. Running, swimming, and yoga are all beneficial to the treatment of neurasthenia. The following article introduces the relevant knowledge about how to cure neurasthenia by persisting in running.

1. Keep running to cure neurasthenia

Yes, the most important thing in treating neurasthenia is to combine work and rest. Participating in physical activities such as running, doing exercises, playing ball and swimming has a good regulating effect on the nervous system, can promote the benign conversion of excitement and inhibition of the nervous system, can reduce or eliminate the patient's neurasthenia symptoms, thereby making the brain responsive, quick to think about problems and improving work efficiency.

Physical activity has the effect of exercising and increasing the function of the nervous system. When people with neurasthenia participate in physical exercise, in addition to following the basic requirements of measuring one's ability, gradual progress, comprehensiveness and perseverance, they should pay special attention to the following matters: First, they should strictly control the exercise load according to their personal physical condition, exercise level and the severity of the disease, and generally a moderate load is appropriate. Arrange proper rest between exercises, and do not exercise too long, too much, or too vigorously due to momentary enthusiasm. You will see the benefits day by day as you feel more energized and your sleep improves after exercise. Secondly, choose a good time and place to exercise. It is best to do it in the morning or before dusk, near trees or rivers where the air is fresh and the environment is quiet. It is not advisable to do any activities before going to bed to avoid excessive excitement and disrupting sleep. Again, do some light clean-up activities after your workout. Such as massage, foot washing, etc., to promote peace and tranquility of body and mind.

2. Clinical manifestations of neurasthenia

Many patients have bad personality traits before they become ill: inferiority, sensitivity, suspicion, lack of self-confidence or subjectivity, impatience, and eagerness to win, which can easily lead to relaxation and adjustment disorders to life events, causing the brain to be in continuous tension for a long time and causing the disease.

Currently, most scholars believe that mental factors are the main cause of neurasthenia. Any factors that can cause persistent tension and long-term inner conflicts, which make the nervous activity process intensely and persistently tense and exceed the tolerance limit of the nervous system tension, can cause the disease. Being overly tired and not getting rest means that the excitation process is over-tension; being dissatisfied with the current situation means that the inhibition process is over-tension; frequently changing the living environment without adapting will cause the central nervous system to be over-tension and fatigued. The nerve cells in the cerebral cortex have a very high tolerance. Although fatigue occurs after intense mental work, they can recover after a short rest or sleep. However, long-term intense neural activity, once it exceeds the tolerance limit, may cause neurasthenia.

How to diagnose neurasthenia

1. Symptom criteria

1. Meet the diagnostic criteria for neurosis;

2. Symptoms of brain and body function weakness are the main features, characterized by persistent and distressing mental fatigue (such as feeling listless, feeling mentally dull, inability to concentrate or persist, poor memory, and decreased thinking efficiency) and physical fatigue that cannot be restored after rest or recreation, and at least two of the following:

(1) Emotional symptoms, such as worry, tension, irritability, etc., are often related to various contradictions in real life, which make people feel difficult and hard to deal with. Anxiety or depression may be present but not dominant;

(2) Excitement symptoms, such as feeling easily excited (such as increased memories and associations, mainly feeling that directed thinking is laborious, while non-directed thinking is very active, feeling pain and discomfort due to being difficult to control, but no increase in speech and movement. Sometimes very sensitive to sound and light.

(3) Muscle tension pain (such as tension headache, limb muscle aches) or dizziness;

(4) Sleep disorders, such as difficulty falling asleep, frequent dreams, feeling tired after waking up, loss of sleep sensation, and sleep-wake rhythm disorder;

(5) Other psychological and physiological disorders, such as dizziness, tinnitus, palpitations, chest tightness, abdominal distension, indigestion, frequent urination, sweating, impotence, premature ejaculation or menstrual disorders.

2. Severity Standard

Patients feel obvious weakening of brain and body functions, which affects their social functions, and they feel distressed or actively seek treatment.

3. Disease course standards

Symptoms have been present for at least 3 months.

4. How to differentiate and diagnose neurasthenia

Many cases diagnosed in the past as neurasthenia now meet the criteria for depressive or anxiety disorders. But there are some cases in which the description of neurasthenia is more appropriate than any other neurotic syndrome. When using the diagnostic category of neurasthenia, depressive illness and anxiety disorders should be excluded first. Schizophrenia patients may have symptoms similar to neurasthenia in the early stages, but the pain is not obvious and the desire to seek treatment is not strong. As the disease progresses and mental symptoms appear, it is not difficult to identify.

1. Schizophrenia

Neurasthenia symptoms may occur in the early stage and remission period of schizophrenia, but patients do not care about their illness and do not urgently seek treatment, and they have corresponding psychotic symptoms to identify;

2. Depression

Differential diagnosis is often difficult, especially for patients with mild depression, who are often misdiagnosed as neurasthenia. Because patients with depression often suffer from insomnia, fatigue, inattention, lack of energy and various physical discomforts. The two types of symptoms are similar, and there are no corresponding positive signs in physical examination. If the patient's depression is neglected, it will often lead to misdiagnosis. Therefore, depression must be excluded when diagnosing neurasthenia clinically. Patients with depression experience low mood, loss of pleasure, loss of interest in daily life, self-blame, self-guilt, and often have negative suicidal thoughts. The patient's symptoms may show rhythmic fluctuations, being worse in the morning and better at night. Early awakening is a characteristic of sleep disorders in depression. The course of depression may have periodic remissions.

3. Chronic fatigue syndrome

It is a group of disorders characterized by fatigue that cannot be resolved by rest. A syndrome that lasts for more than half a year and no medical or psychiatric disease is found to cause fatigue, often accompanied by low fever, sore throat, lymph node pain, muscle weakness, muscle pain, joint pain, headache, persistent fatigue, mental and psychological symptoms (such as irritability, forgetfulness, inattention, difficulty thinking, depression, etc.), and sleep disorders (manifested as excessive sleeping or insomnia). Physical examination revealed low-grade fever (37.6°C-38.6°C), non-exudative pharyngitis, and tender lymphadenopathy in the anterior and posterior cervical region or in the isthmus of the pharynx. Objective signs such as low fever, sore throat, enlarged lymph nodes and tenderness help to differentiate it from neurasthenia.
