What to do if you are swollen during the fifth month of pregnancy

What to do if you are swollen during the fifth month of pregnancy

A pregnant woman's body secretes hormones. The amount of pregnancy hormones increases naturally, and some uncomfortable symptoms appear, which are also called pregnancy reactions. Some pregnant women will experience edema when they are five months pregnant. This may be due to long-term lack of exercise or the fetus pressing on blood vessels in the belly, causing blood circulation problems and thus causing edema. So what should you do if you have edema during your fifth month of pregnancy?

Steps/Methods:

1. The reason why pregnant women's legs swell up at five months is that the fetus compresses the blood vessels in the belly, causing the blood flow back to the limbs to slow down. Five months is the critical period of fetal development, and the fetus absorbs nutrients from the mother, and some maternal malnutrition will lead to edema.

2 There are two possibilities for edema in pregnant women's legs. If the edema is below the ankles, it should be considered that the compression in the uterus causes obstruction of the inferior vena cava return, which leads to edema above the legs. This is a very normal pregnancy reaction and you don't need to worry too much about it. Just pay more attention to rest.

3 Secondly, if the weight-bearing area of the legs is relatively large and is above the ankles, then you should consider the possibility of gestational hypertension. This is a sign of severe malnutrition and a disruption in the environment within your body, which can lead to an outflow of tissue fluid and cause swelling in your legs.

Note:

If the edema is severe, you should go to the hospital for a check-up to rule out whether it is a normal pregnancy reaction or the result of some disease. Early detection and early treatment are important. At the same time, you should also strengthen your nutrition and pay more attention to rest.

The first thing to consider is whether it is pregnancy-induced hypertension syndrome. Pregnant women may experience pitting edema in their lower limbs after standing or sitting for a long time, but it will disappear after lying in bed. This is a physiological phenomenon during pregnancy. If the edema does not subside after rest and tends to worsen, and the edema spreads from the feet or ankles to the whole body, this is an abnormal phenomenon. When severe edema occurs, go to the hospital for examination, diagnosis and treatment in time, and pay attention to dietary regulation.
