The most common reason for insufficient breast milk

The most common reason for insufficient breast milk

A large number of women will experience insufficient breast milk during the lactation period. Insufficient breast milk will lead to insufficient nutrition for the baby and will reduce the baby's body resistance if fed with formula milk. Therefore, children who grow up with formula milk instead of breast milk are very likely to get sick. There are many reasons for the mother's insufficient milk, and some people may have small breasts. So what are the most common reasons for insufficient breast milk?

Nowadays, more and more mothers are willing to accept breastfeeding, but many primiparas have varying degrees of insufficient breast milk and various breastfeeding difficulties during lactation. The reasons are:

1. Improper feeding

Newborns do not suckle the breast soon after birth, nor are they breastfed on demand, the number of breastfeeding times and sucking time every 24 hours are not enough, and the sucking posture is incorrect; the mother and baby are separated, and the use of bottles for feeding causes "nipple illusion", which makes the newborn unwilling to suck breast milk; the nipples are painful and the newborn is unwilling to suck; adding complementary foods too early and other factors can all lead to insufficient milk.

2. Improper guidance

Medical workers fail to provide correct breastfeeding guidance, or due to some objective reasons, the mother may have the illusion that she does not have enough milk, which leads to a decrease in the newborn's sucking stimulation and ultimately leads to insufficient milk.

3. Temporary decrease in breast milk supply

Temporary insufficient milk secretion may occur due to factors such as excessive tension, anxiety, anger, panic, etc. of the mother; or fatigue, depression, lack of confidence in breastfeeding of the nursing mother; illness of the mother or newborn; or the resumption of menstruation of the mother.

4. Unbalanced diet

If the mother has an unbalanced diet, such as insufficient intake of dairy products, or only eating meat and no vegetables or fruits, she may suffer from insufficient breast milk. Starting a high-protein, high-fat diet such as pig trotter soup and crucian carp soup immediately after delivery will make the colostrum too thick and cause poor milk discharge.

5. Breast disease during lactation

At present, "breastfeeding difficulties" caused by breast disease during lactation resulting in blockage of milk ducts is also very common today. The most common people who are susceptible to breast disease during lactation are professional women, office workers and highly educated women who are under long-term tension. In addition, it is also seen in those who live and work in environmentally polluted areas, those with dysmenorrhea and menstrual disorders; primiparas, those who have undergone cesarean section, short and inverted nipples, and breast feeding disorders; those with a history of miscarriage, breast lumps, accessory breast disease, lobular hyperplasia, and breast surgery history; Genetic factors: those with a family history of breast disease during lactation and breast cancer; those who have used drugs or surgery to enlarge their breasts.

6. Primipara

Primiparas who undergo cesarean section for difficult labor, have a weak constitution, or suffer from excessive bleeding that causes qi and blood deficiency can cause milk vascular blockage, delayed lactation, insufficient biochemical milk, or no lactation. At the same time, anesthetics and antibiotics inhibit the secretion of milk by the pituitary gland's prolactin.

7. Self-defective

Some mothers have small and flat breasts, inverted and short nipples, but they do not receive proper care before delivery, which makes breastfeeding difficult after delivery. Obvious accessory breast disease or gigantic breast disease, a history of surgery for breast lumps before delivery, a history of breast augmentation surgery or injections, a history of breast augmentation, a history of breast trauma, etc. can all cause difficulties in milk ejection and breastfeeding. Other factors such as breast hypoplasia, breast surgery, inverted nipples, repeated pregnancy, hypothyroidism of the mother or use of certain medications that affect milk secretion can all reduce milk secretion.

8. Not expressing breast milk in time

Some primiparas fail to suck out the remaining milk in time when the milk supply is too high, and when the milk supply is too low, they gather milk and delay feeding, and do not breastfeed on time (breastfeeding must be done once within 3 hours). In addition, deep sleep in primiparas (blowing milk) during breastfeeding and nipple infections caused by babies biting their nipples during teething period are prone to milk stasis and mastitis, both of which will inhibit the secretion of pituitary prolactin.
