There is a hard lump behind the ear

The symptom of having a hard lump behind the ear is quite common. Many people don’t know what is going on. There are many reasons for this symptom. Sometimes it may be caused by swollen lymph nodes. Lymph nodes have immune functions. When suffering from certain inflammation, the lymph nodes will swell and the secretion of lymph fluid will also increase. The main function is to kill bacteria. Let us now take a closer look at what is going on when there is a hard lump behind the ear.

[Although it is also a small hard bag, it may be caused by several situations]

1. Swollen lymph nodes

Lymph nodes are distributed throughout the body and are important immune organs of the human body. A large number of lymph nodes are gathered at the base of the human ear. The lymph nodes behind the ears are mainly responsible for collecting lymph fluid within the scalp.

Therefore, the main cause of swollen lymph nodes is usually a bacterial or viral infection in a certain area of the head. Such as otitis media, tinea capitis, seborrheic dermatitis, tonsillitis, oral ulcers, upper respiratory tract infection and other problems.

If you suspect that your condition is caused by swollen lymph nodes, check whether you have similar infectious symptoms as mentioned above. For example, otitis media will cause ear pain and pus discharge from the ear.

Let me teach you a simple way to judge: if the small lump can slide when touched, it is mostly swollen lymph nodes, which is a relatively good situation.

2. Cyst

The difference between a cyst and a swollen lymph node is that the cyst is softer in texture and does not hurt when touched. It is more common in young people in adolescence, mainly due to blockage of the sebaceous gland ducts and poor discharge of secretions.

If you squeeze it hard, white pus or even blood will appear. This practice is generally not advisable and may lead to secondary infection, causing other problems.

Note: If similar small lumps appear in the nose, they are mostly cysts.

3. Folliculitis

This condition is also called furuncle, which is mainly caused by lack of hygiene and bacteria invading hair follicles. The main symptoms are local redness, swelling, burning sensation and pain. Generally, it will turn into pus after a few days and the disease will heal after the pus is discharged.

Countermeasures: Use 1% neomycin ointment, fusidic acid ointment, or 2% iodine tincture for external application (choose one of the three).

4. Others: Tumors/parasites

Don't scare yourself, these situations are very, very rare. If the lump does not disappear for a long time and anti-inflammatory drugs are ineffective, it may be a tumor. It is recommended that people who have lumps for a long time go for a check-up. If they are benign, there will not be much problem. Just pay attention to your conditioning.

Of course, there are very few cases where the disease is caused by parasites. In this case, you need to go to the hospital for a biopsy to find out the specific condition. Usually, taking deworming medicine will significantly improve the condition.

How to regulate?

Adjust your lifestyle

Although small lumps may be caused by a variety of reasons, they are all inseparable from the influence of personal lifestyle habits. For example, not paying attention to personal hygiene, often feeling low and depressed, staying up all night, loving spicy food and drinks, etc. can all lead to the formation of small lumps, so everyone should pay attention to adjustments.

Eliminate related inflammation

As mentioned above, many times small lumps are caused by other inflammations. Only by solving the related problems will the small lumps naturally disappear.

Conditioning the body

From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, some small lumps are actually related to excessive accumulation of toxins in the human body and getting angry. Therefore, taking good care of your body can also help the small lumps disappear.
