Can I do moxibustion after taking a bath?

We all know that there are many precautions for moxibustion. Not only does it have requirements for the patient's physique, but also the patient cannot be exposed to wind or take a bath after moxibustion. If you want to take a bath, you must wait 24 hours, otherwise it is likely to cause the patient to catch a cold. Because after moxibustion, the capillaries of the whole body are opened. If they are impacted by water, they will catch a cold. So if you cannot take a bath after moxibustion, can you do moxibustion after taking a bath?

You can do moxibustion about an hour and a half after taking a shower, because the body's meridians and pores will be opened after moxibustion, avoiding the coldness brought to the body by taking a shower. Therefore, you should wait until your body and hair are completely dry before you can do moxibustion.

To correctly understand the knowledge of moxibustion:

1. Moxibustion has many benefits, but it is not a panacea. When you feel unwell, you should go to the hospital first to check and confirm the problem, instead of trying to solve it with moxibustion no matter where the discomfort is.

2. In order for moxibustion to have good effects, it is also necessary to have good living habits. Don’t think that since moxibustion can maintain health and cure diseases, I can stay up late, not pay attention to my diet, and do whatever I want. If you have such thoughts, moxibustion will not help.

3. Order of moxibustion: "Qian Jin Fang" records: "In all moxibustion, one should first apply yang then yin, first left then right, first top then bottom." This is about the order of moxibustion. If there are associated acupoints above, below, front, and back, the yang meridians should be moxibustioned first, then the yin meridians; the upper part should be moxibustioned first, then the lower part; the left side should be moxibustioned first, then the right side. That is, first the back, then the chest and abdomen, first the head and torso, then the limbs, in order. The purpose is to draw Yin from Yang without the disadvantages of hyperactivity, so do not do moxibustion in reverse order. If you do not follow the order, and then moxibustion the head and face, there will often be sequelae or discomfort such as hot face, dry throat, and dry mouth. Even if there is no such reaction, moxibustion should be performed from top to bottom. This is the same as acupuncture acupoints. The order should not be messed up and will not be forgotten.

4. Don’t be impatient for results and don’t apply moxibustion to too many acupoints at one time or for too long. To treat a certain disease, moxibustion should be performed strictly according to the requirements. For daily health-preserving moxibustion, you can apply moxibustion to 2 or 3 acupoints each time, and apply moxibustion to each acupoint for 10-20 minutes. There are four options for time: you can do moxibustion every other day, or moxibustion for 2-3 days in a row and stop for 1-2 days; or moxibustion for 3-5 days in a row and stop for 2-3 days; do not moxibustion continuously for a long time, and do not moxibustion only when you remember.

5. During the moxibustion process, some people see results quickly, while others take a long time to see results. These are all normal because everyone has different physical conditions, different degrees of illness, and different recovery abilities, all of which directly affect the time it takes for moxibustion to take effect. Therefore, there is no fixed standard for the effectiveness of moxibustion. As long as you persist in the correct moxibustion according to the requirements, it will definitely help prevent and cure diseases and strengthen your body.

6. Drink a cup of warm water that is above body temperature and slightly hot to the mouth (never drink cold or ice water) before and after moxibustion, which will help expel toxins from the body. It is forbidden to eat during the moxibustion process.

7. Do not wash your hands or take a bath with cold water within 1 hour after moxibustion. If you must wash your hands or take a bath under special circumstances, use hot water above body temperature and finish as quickly as possible. Tips for recuperation after moxibustion: Avoid wind and cold after moxibustion, be careful about your daily life and avoid eating raw, cold and rich foods. Only light vegetarian food is most suitable.

8. Some people will experience fever, thirst, inflammation, itchy skin after moxibustion. Some will develop rashes, fatigue, weakness, constipation, yellow urine, sweating, toothache, tinnitus, irregular vaginal bleeding, general discomfort, etc. Generally, don't panic, and these symptoms will disappear if you continue moxibustion. At this time, you can use moxibustion on Zusanli to guide the fire downward and drink more water. If necessary, stop moxibustion or do it every other day, and the symptoms will disappear soon.

9. Some people will experience relapses during the moxibustion process. The more times the disease relapses, the more it proves that the pathogenic factors are still lingering, and it also shows that the positive energy is accumulating little by little. It is normal to have relapses, and it is also normal not to have relapses. Don't deliberately seek relapses.
