What happened to sudden urinary incontinence

What happened to sudden urinary incontinence

In life, urinary incontinence among children is a common phenomenon. It not only occurs among children, but some adults may also suddenly experience urinary incontinence. It is also more common among the elderly. So what is going on? Generally speaking, there are many causes, and the main symptoms are: overflow incontinence, stress incontinence, etc. This article briefly introduces what is urinary incontinence?

What is urinary incontinence?

Urinary incontinence is the loss of urinary control due to bladder sphincter damage or nerve dysfunction, resulting in involuntary loss of urine. Urinary incontinence can be divided into five categories according to symptoms: overflow incontinence, non-resistance incontinence, reflex incontinence, urge incontinence and stress incontinence.

Causes of Urinary Incontinence

The causes of urinary incontinence can be divided into the following categories: ① congenital diseases, such as epispadias; ② trauma, such as trauma during childbirth, pelvic fracture, etc.; ③ surgery, such as prostate surgery, urethral stricture repair, etc. for adults; posterior urethral valve surgery, etc. for children; ④ neurogenic bladder caused by various reasons.

How to treat urinary incontinence

1. Large amount of residual urine

It can cause stress incontinence or overflow incontinence. The principle of treatment for this type of urinary incontinence is to use surgery (bladder neck or external urethral sphincter incision) to reduce urethral resistance to reduce residual urine.

2. Detrusor hyperreflexia or unstable bladder

It can cause urge or reflex incontinence and sometimes cough urge incontinence. The principle of treatment is to inhibit the uninhibited contractions of the bladder with drugs (such as verapamil), sacral nerve blocks, sacral nerve surgery, or bladder denervation.

3. Insufficient sphincter function

For this type of patient with residual urine, the principle of treatment is to increase urethral resistance through drugs or surgery. Men with nonresistance incontinence may be treated with an artificial urinary sphincter device, urethral lengthening, urethral clamps (in women), or penile clamps.

What to do if you have urinary incontinence

2. 1. Be optimistic and open-minded.

2. Prevent urinary tract infection. Develop the habit of wiping your hands from front to back after urinating or defecating to avoid urethral infection. Before sexual intercourse, the couple should wash the vulva with warm water. After sexual intercourse, the woman should immediately empty her urine and clean her vulva. If you experience urinary pain or frequent urination after sexual intercourse, you can take anti-urinary tract infection drugs for 3 to 5 days to quickly cure the inflammation in the early stages.

3. Maintain a regular sex life.

4. Strengthen physical exercise and actively treat various chronic diseases. Emphysema, asthma, bronchitis, obesity, huge tumors in the abdominal cavity, etc. can all cause increased abdominal pressure and lead to urinary incontinence. These chronic diseases should be actively treated and the overall nutritional status should be improved. At the same time, appropriate physical exercise and pelvic floor muscle exercises should be carried out.

5. Women should pay attention to rest after giving birth , avoid carrying heavy weight or overwork too early, and should insist on contracting the anus for 5 to 10 minutes every day. Don’t hold your urine at ordinary times, and pay attention to losing weight. If you have birth injuries, repair them in time.
