When abnormal pain occurs in the abdomen and enhanced color ultrasound and enhanced CT cannot further confirm the diagnosis, in order to find out the cause and formulate a treatment plan as soon as possible, the doctor will often ask the patient to undergo an abdominal MRI examination, that is, abdominal magnetic resonance imaging. MRI examination has important clinical significance, especially in the early diagnosis of malignant tumors, vascular invasion and tumor staging, and its diagnostic accuracy is better than CT.

1. What diseases can be examined by abdominal MRI?

Primary or metastatic tumors of the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, and hepatic cavernous hemangioma;

Liver parasitic diseases: such as echinococcosis;

Diffuse liver disease: such as cirrhosis, fatty liver, and pigmentation disorder;

Congenital developmental abnormalities of the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, and spleen;

Liver abscess, localized nodular hyperplasia of the liver, and hepatic inflammatory pseudotumor;

Pancreatitis and its complications.

2. People who are not suitable for MRI examination

1. People with artificial heart pacemakers or neurostimulators are prohibited from undergoing examinations.

2. Those with silver clips in the skull or metal foreign bodies in the eyeballs are prohibited from undergoing examination.

3. ECG monitors are not allowed in the MRI examination room. Those who have undergone arterial disease surgery, heart surgery or have artificial heart valves are prohibited from taking the test.

4. Various critically ill patients: such as those who are in a coma, irritability, arrhythmia, respiratory insufficiency, continuous blood loss, and incontinence after trauma or accidents, etc.

5. If there are metal objects (such as internal fixation steel pins, etc.) in the inspection area, it cannot be inspected.

6. Pregnant women should be cautious when undergoing the examination. If there is a possibility of pregnancy, please inform the examining doctor.

3. MRI examination precautions

1. People who have magnetic substances in their bodies, such as pacemakers, artificial valves, or metal foreign objects remaining near important organs, cannot undergo this examination. However, people whose implants are confirmed to be non-magnetic by the surgeon can undergo MRI examination.

2. Inform the technical staff of the following situations: whether there is any surgical history; whether there are any metal or magnetic materials implanted in the body, including metal IUDs, etc.; whether there are any dentures, electronic ears, artificial eyes, etc.; whether there are any drug allergies; whether any metal foreign objects have been splashed into the body.

3. Do not wear underwear with metal materials. Patients who need to have their head and neck examined should wash their hair the day before the examination and do not use any hair care products.

4. Before the examination, you need to take off all clothes except underwear and change into special clothes for examination in the MRI room. Remove any metal accessories you are wearing such as necklaces, earrings, watches and rings. Remove facial makeup and items such as dentures, artificial eyes, and glasses.

5. Before the examination, you must provide the doctor with your entire medical history, examination data, and all X-rays, CT scans, previous MRI scans, etc.

6. For abdominal examination (liver, spleen, kidney, pancreas, bile duct, ureter, etc.), the examinee should fast for 4 hours and inject one syringe of 654-2 before the examination.

7. Patients undergoing magnetic resonance urography (MRU) should take 20 mg of furosemide orally before the examination.
