Will chickenpox leave scars?

Acne on the face is very distressing for young people who love beauty. Some of them will even leave scars, affecting their appearance. People who have had chickenpox are also very uncertain, not knowing that chickenpox will not leave scars. Chickenpox is different from acne. Chickenpox is an acute infectious disease. Most people will not have scars after recovery, but you should also pay special attention during the entire treatment process and not scratch the skin.

Generally speaking, chickenpox occurs and subsides according to the natural course of the disease. Even if large blisters rupture and form erosive surfaces, they will heal quickly and leave no scars. However, if you do not pay attention to keeping the skin clean and repeatedly scratch the ulcers, it is easy to cause secondary bacterial infection and even gangrene, which will leave scars after healing. Because the lesions of simple varicella are very shallow and do not reach the dermis, if combined with bacterial infection, they will damage downwards and cause scar formation.

After a child is infected with the varicella virus, symptoms will not appear until after a latent period of 2-3 weeks. Generally, there is a fever for one day, accompanied by headache, anorexia, crying, irritability, general discomfort or cough, and then a rash appears, mostly scattered on the head, face, trunk and armpits, and rarely on the limbs, palms and soles, and is distributed in a centripetal manner. At the beginning, bright red macules or maculopapules ranging in size from rice grains to beans appear on the skin. Within 24 hours, round or oval blisters with a red halo around them form. The blisters are very easy to rupture and ulcerate.

After 3-5 days, the blisters gradually dry up, first shrinking from the center and then forming scabs. After several days or 2-3 weeks, the scabs fall off completely and the disease is healed, usually leaving no trace. When the disease occurs, damage may occur to the conjunctiva, oral and pharyngeal mucosa, and vaginal mucosa. Lifelong immunity can be obtained after the disease. A small number of children have weak resistance and poor immune function, and may develop hemorrhagic blisters and secondary bacterial infections, which may lead to encephalitis, pneumonia, myocarditis or other organ diseases.

The condition of children with chickenpox is generally mild, with few complications. No special treatment is required, and they can usually recover naturally within 7-10 days. But take good care to prevent infection. During the fever and rash period, the child should rest in bed, drink plenty of water, and be provided with nutritious and easily digestible food such as milk, eggs, fruits, vegetables, etc. Spicy foods such as fish and shrimp should be avoided; prevent colds, especially avoid being exposed to the wind; wash hands and face frequently, change clothes frequently, and keep the skin clean; pay attention to the cleaning and disinfection of clothes and utensils, and pay attention to hygiene.

The room should be ventilated frequently and the temperature and humidity should be appropriate. Keep your child's nails short to prevent them from scratching the rash and causing infection. If the itching is severe, you can apply oven-dried stone lotion to relieve the itching, or take drugs such as chlorpheniramine; if the herpes breaks, you can apply gentian violet, and if there is an infection, you can apply some anti-inflammatory ointment topically, and take berberine or sulfonamides if necessary; avoid using ointments such as Fuqing and prednisone to avoid systemic chickenpox. If a child has persistent high fever, cough, headache, chest pain, or dense, red blisters with turbid blister fluid, or has developed diffuse abscesses, cellulitis, or lymphadenitis, he or she needs to be sent to the hospital for treatment.
