What are the symptoms of altitude sickness?

Altitude sickness is a reaction caused when a person goes to a place where the air is relatively thin. Generally, healthy people need to breathe and oxygen, but the altitude on the mountains is relatively high, which can easily lead to hypoxia in the human body. The most obvious symptoms of altitude sickness are dizziness, headache, difficulty breathing, nausea, etc., and people may also feel thirsty and their lips may turn pale.

What are the symptoms of altitude sickness?

Cyanosis of the lips is a very common symptom of altitude sickness, usually accompanied by a pale face. Sometimes I feel sleepy, or vice versa, I don't want to sleep and so on. This is basically because we just arrived there and did not take certain travel measures, which led to lack of oxygen in the plateau.

Headaches are very common. Because we have very little oxygen at high altitudes, this is very likely to cause hypoxia in our brain, which will cause headaches. Moreover, headaches are usually worse in the morning or after exercise.

Our heartbeat speeds up as oxygen becomes scarce. This is because our heart has to supply oxygen to our body, which causes it to be overloaded, and then the speed will become faster and faster. In short, this is very dangerous for people with heart disease, so such people should try their best not to go to such places.

Anorexia and fatigue. Anorexia is usually caused by our physical illness, so we have no appetite. If we have altitude sickness, anorexia is a common problem. Moreover, not only anorexia, we are also likely to feel general fatigue. As we said above, after feeling general fatigue, we feel like sleeping.

Edema occurs. When the oxygen content decreases, the blood in our kidneys will decrease, which will affect urination and cause edema. Secondly, as our urination decreases, our body's metabolic rate will decrease, which will directly lead to various problems in our stomach, intestines and organs.

When we feel chest tightness and discomfort and the oxygen content is low, we do not inhale enough oxygen and we will experience shortness of breath and difficulty breathing, which will cause a series of problems such as chest tightness and shortness of breath. At this time, we advise everyone to breathe as steadily as possible and not too quickly. The more quickly you breathe, the heavier the burden on your heart, which will have a bad effect on the organs in your body.

Causes

The reason for altitude sickness is that the higher the altitude, the thinner the air and the lower the air pressure. Therefore, the oxygen pressure needed by the human body also decreases, but the oxygen content needed by the human body remains unchanged. In order to maintain the oxygen content required by the human body in the blood, the red blood cell content must be increased. However, it takes a few days for the human body to automatically increase the red blood cell content. Therefore, when you first enter the mountainous area, the altitude will suddenly increase and the human body will not have time to adapt, resulting in insufficient oxygen supply in the body. The higher the altitude, the shorter the transition time, and the more intense the reaction. This physiological reaction is generally called altitude sickness.
