The correct way to polish leather shoes

After entering society, everyone will buy a pair of leather shoes, which is not only a must-have for professional attire, but also a symbol of maturity. However, leather shoes are not easy to take care of. If they are not properly maintained, they will soon become wrinkled and the leather on the surface will fall off, which will look unsightly. There are some tips for maintaining leather shoes. The first thing to do is to use shoe polish. Because the leather on leather shoes needs shoe polish to replenish the damaged moisture after processing, so that it will appear translucent. How should shoe polish be applied to leather shoes?

Several ways to apply shoe polish:

1. Whether new or old shoes, before oiling, you must first clean the dirt, mud and dust on the leather shoes. Otherwise, directly oiling them will cause cracks in the leather over time.

2. Use a soft cloth dipped in a detergent to clean the dirt on the shoe surface. Never use water, gasoline or organic solvents to scrub, because water can harden the leather and gasoline can cause the leather surface to crack.

3. For shoe upper leather stain remover, you can mix tooth powder or toothpaste with cream; you can also apply Vaseline oil on the dirty area and wipe it with a soft cloth after a while.

4. Don’t apply the oil too thickly, just apply a thin and even layer. In addition, shoe polish should be squeezed onto a soft cloth and a shoe brush and applied evenly to all parts of the leather upper. Do not squeeze it directly onto the shoe upper.

5. Drop a few drops of water on the brushed shoe surface, because water can make the wax solidify faster and make the leather shoes shiny; or add a few drops of vinegar to the squeezed shoe polish, and then brush it on the shoe surface, which can act as a brightener and is not easy to get dusty.

6. Use a shoe brush to polish the shoe surface that has been polished. Brush the brush back and forth quickly to generate heat through friction with the shoe surface and allow the shoe polish to penetrate into the leather to keep the leather soft. Finally, use a soft cloth to rub it again vigorously. This is why it is called shoe polishing instead of applying shoe polish.

Simple maintenance and repair methods for leather shoes

1. Preventing feet from being hurt by new leather shoes: Once you wear new shoes, you will find that the heel is slightly uncomfortable and your feet may get blisters.

Treatment method: When encountering this situation, you can wrap the blistered area of your foot with a wet sponge. After an hour, remove the wet sponge, support and rub the upper part of the heel with your hands to soften it, place it in a cool and ventilated place to dry, then apply a little raw chicken oil (animal fat) or rub it with walnut kernels, and finally apply a layer of shoe polish and wear it on your feet to let it take shape naturally.

2. The formation and treatment of white spots: After wearing leather shoes for a long time, some white sweat spots will appear on the leather surface. This is the seepage of salt in the sweat absorbed by the leather and substances contained in the leather, which is called salting out. Especially after leather shoes are exposed to moisture and dried, white spots often appear.

Treatment method: First scrub the white spots clean with alcohol or leather detergent, then brush on layer by layer of shoe right, and then drop a few drops of edible vinegar, and rub back and forth with a brush or white cloth to remove the white spots and restore it to its original state.

4. Formation of mildew spots on leather shoes: Mildew spots often appear on the uppers of leather shoes due to moisture on rainy days.

Treatment method: First wipe the mildew stains with alcohol, and then wipe them with a dry soft cloth to remove the mildew stains.

5. Prevent the leather shoe surface from fading: The uppers of some leather shoes are easy to fade, which will stain socks and pants, especially two-tone leather shoes, which will stain the uppers due to fading.

Treatment method: First dissolve one part of 30% pure formaldehyde in three parts of water to make a solvent, apply it to the shoe surface, and after it dries, apply it again with a solution made of one part of shellac dissolved in 10 parts of alcohol. After it dries, apply another layer of shoe polish to prevent a lot of discoloration on the shoe surface.
