Symptoms of gluteus maximus strain

Symptoms of gluteus maximus strain

Among all parts of our body, the buttocks seem to be strong and are rarely injured. However, some exercises or behaviors can also cause gluteus maximus strain. If the gluteus maximus is strained, it will affect our daily life. Below we will introduce to you the main symptoms of gluteus maximus strain, hoping that you can detect gluteus maximus strain in time.

The buttocks are the part of the human body with the most muscles and fat, and are the intersection of the torso and lower limbs. Its movement is complex and can easily cause injury. Because the buttocks muscles have many layers and a large number, the symptoms caused by injury are very similar. If they are not carefully examined and distinguished, confusion often occurs. Therefore, there are many misdiagnoses in clinical practice, and gluteus maximus injury is the one that is most easily overlooked in clinical practice.

External force hits the gluteus maximus, such as falling from a height and hitting the buttocks, or hitting the buttocks with a wooden stick. Frequent use of explosive force to perform hip flexion activities, internal rotation and backward kicking to make the gluteus maximus contract suddenly and forcefully. This causes strain on the attachment points of the gluteus maximus at both ends. Frequent exercise or long-term weight-bearing labor due to muscle weakness may cause strain on the fascia and gluteus maximus at the junction of the gluteus maximus, gluteus medius, and tensor fasciae latae. The injured area will exude, become sclerotic, adhere, and form scars over time, affecting local blood circulation and squeezing surrounding nerves, causing the disease.

Pain in the lower back, buttocks and outer thigh, which worsens when the thigh is abducted. If you stand or walk for a long time, the gluteus maximus muscle on the affected side will be sore and weak, you will feel weak when running and jumping, and it will be difficult to go up stairs and climb hills. During an acute attack, the pain may radiate down to the back of the thigh.

Gluteus maximus injuries usually develop slowly, causing soreness and discomfort in the lower back and buttocks, which worsens after fatigue. A considerable number of patients have no local symptoms, and only experience soreness, swelling, discomfort, or even coldness and numbness in the affected calf. It can only be relieved by beating or massaging. When extending the knee, the calf often has "cramps". Massage therapy in the calf area may relieve symptoms.

In severe cases, the calf is tender to the touch, but pressing hard only provides temporary comfort, which affects walking and sleeping. The common clinical diagnoses are: restless leg syndrome, spinal stenosis, traumatic arthritis, etc. In some cases, symptoms only include pain and discomfort in the foot and ankle, numbness and swelling in the sole, pain in the calcaneal, hallux tarso, and metatarsophalangeal joints, etc. The above symptoms are more severe at the beginning of the activity. After the activity begins, the symptoms are slightly relieved, and then worsen again after fatigue.

Gluteus maximus injury can seriously threaten our physical health, so we should pay attention to gluteus maximus injury and actively seek treatment after discovering symptoms, so that our gluteus maximus can recover as soon as possible and we can have healthy and beautiful buttocks.
