Are rove beetles poisonous?

There are many insects in our lives, some are poisonous and some are non-toxic. Rove beetles are relatively rare and produce toxins in their bodies. Human skin is the most sensitive, so if attacked by rove beetles, it needs to be dealt with promptly. But for the rove beetle itself, its venom can easily cause skin inflammation. Of course, there are certain ways to treat it. What everyone needs to clarify is one question: is the rove beetle poisonous?

1. Paederus venom

The body fluids of rove beetles are indeed poisonous, but not as toxic as what is said on the Internet. In fact, there are some poisonous insects that are more ferocious than this one, such as the Aedes albopictus. If you are bitten by these mosquitoes, you are likely to get dengue fever. The time when the rove beetle releases its toxin is the moment it is slapped to death by a person. When the rove beetle is slapped to death, the highly acidic toxin will be released from its body, inducing an allergic skin reaction in the human body.

2. Treatment after the attack of rove beetles

Generally speaking, using potassium permanganate solution, saline solution and sodium bicarbonate solution in appropriate proportions can have a good therapeutic effect. As for prevention, take insect-proof measures when going on outings or visiting mountains, and avoid directly swatting such insects. If slapped, wash with alkaline soapy water as soon as possible.

3. How the toxicity of rove beetles spreads

The eggs, larvae, pupae and all parts of the adult beetle except the wings contain toxins. The toxins of adult worms mainly come from hemolymph, and the toxins in female worms are 10 times that in male worms. The toxin is distributed in every part of the insect's body, dividing the insect body into several segments. No matter which segment contacts the skin, it will cause dermatitis with the same symptoms. The amount of toxin contained in different parts of the insect body varies, with the abdomen containing the most, followed by the thorax and legs.

There are two ways in which the body fluids of rove beetles infect human skin: by rubbing the body of the beetle directly on the skin, which is called direct infection. The second way is that the body fragments contaminate the fingers, and then the fingers touch other parts of the body and cause infection, which is called indirect infection. The third way is that the beetle hides in clothes and face towels, and when they are used, the body of the beetle is rubbed and the venom is stained on the clothes, which then contacts the skin and causes infection.

4. Treatment of Paederus venom

Regardless of the form of infection, there is a rubbing action, which is the root cause of the various shapes of dermatitis and the different sizes of damaged areas. Direct contact with insect body fluids is the main way of causing pedere beetle dermatitis.
