Why is there coughing in an air-conditioned room?

In the hot summer, most people cannot stand without air conditioning. However, while many people are enjoying the coolness brought by air conditioning, some people find that they start coughing as soon as they enter the air-conditioned room. Moreover, the cough is easy to recur and never gets better. In fact, this is what we often call air-conditioning syndrome. Why does one cough in an air-conditioned room? The following are the specific reasons for coughing in air-conditioned rooms.

Why does “air-conditioning cough” occur?

On a hot summer day, when people enter an air-conditioned room from outdoors sweating profusely, the body feels cool and comfortable, but for people with poor resistance and sensitive constitution, the upper respiratory tract is suddenly attacked by cold air, which can easily lead to reflex spasm of the trachea and bronchi, causing symptoms such as coughing and asthma. This is what Western medicine calls an allergic cough or irritant cough.

From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, when people sweat during activities, their pores are open and their skin becomes loose. After entering the air-conditioned room, the dust, dust mites, germs, etc. remaining in the air conditioner form "wind evil", which takes the opportunity to invade the human body and cause coughing.

How to treat "air-conditioning cough"?

When most people have "air-conditioning cough", they generally treat it as an ordinary cough and take some cough suppressants or antibiotics on their own. In fact, this is not advisable.

For "air-conditioning cough", don't rush to take cough medicine. Patients with "air-conditioning cough" often suffer from weak and cold lungs. It is important to identify the cause of the cough and not blindly take medicine to relieve the cough. Only by using different methods to treat coughs of different natures can better treatment effects be achieved.

In order to reduce the occurrence of "air-conditioning cough", in addition to symptomatic medication, we should also start from the following aspects:

① Pay attention to dust prevention and cleaning, and clean the air conditioning filter in time to prevent pathogenic microorganisms from multiplying and growing on the filter and causing harm to the human body.

②The air conditioning temperature should not be too low, 26℃~27℃ is the most suitable. At the same time, do not stay in the air-conditioned room for a long time, open the windows frequently to ventilate and keep the indoor air clean.

③ Drink more hot water and avoid cold drinks, keep your throat moist, and drink water boiled with honeysuckle, chrysanthemum, etc., which can not only clear away heat and detoxify, but also prevent bacterial invasion.
