Where is the catheter inserted

The catheter is inserted into the bladder to drain the urine. It needs to be inserted through the urethra and observed. You need to choose a regular and experienced hospital to perform this operation. It is mainly used to treat symptoms of urethral obstruction or catheter rupture. The catheter is inserted into the bladder to avoid urethral and parasite infections. This practice is mainly used before cesarean section.

Detailed steps for catheterization

A urinary catheter is a tube made of natural rubber, silicone rubber or polyvinyl chloride that can be inserted into the bladder through the urethra to drain urine. After the catheter is inserted into the bladder, there is an air bag near the tip of the catheter to fix the catheter in the bladder and prevent it from falling out. The drainage tube is connected to a urine bag to collect urine. Catheterization is a surgery performed to relieve urinary obstruction caused by delivery surgery. It is usually required before cesarean section.

A urinary catheter is usually inserted before a cesarean section. It is inserted from the urethral opening, which is above the vaginal opening. You will feel a little pain during insertion, but it is not painful. The catheter is elastic and the urethra is also elastic, so there is no need to be too nervous. Generally within 24 hours after the operation, medical staff will remove the catheter and encourage the mother to get out of bed to urinate on her own. But if the woman is still unable to defecate on her own, the doctor may insert a urinary catheter again.

In general, a catheter is not required for normal childbirth. The only time a catheter is required during a normal childbirth is when the bladder is compressed during the delivery process, causing temporary loss of function that cannot be recovered in time. After giving birth, women have a lot of excess water in their bodies that needs to be discharged. In order to help the mother urinate in time, a catheter is used.

【Steps for inserting a urinary catheter】:

1. Medical staff wash their hands to remove germs on their hands to prevent infection.

2. Prepare the following equipment: a pack of cotton twigs, a roll of breathable paper tape, a plastic bag, a bedpan, saline or boiled water, and betadine disinfectant solution (if necessary).

3. Start inserting the urinary catheter. Place the bedpan under the patient's buttocks. Manually spread your labia or retract your foreskin.

Wet a cotton swab with saline or boiled water and clean the catheter about one inch (2.5 cm) near the end of the catheter. Use one cotton swab each time and throw the dirty cotton swab into the prepared plastic container.

4. Check for any crusting or abnormal drainage or discharge. If so, medical staff should deal with it immediately.

5. Fix the catheter to the inner thigh of the patient with breathable tape in a tic-tac-toe pattern. Change the adhesive position every day to prevent skin damage caused by long-term adhesion or catheter compression.
