What is the difference between cold process soap and soap base soap

There are many types of handmade soaps, the more common ones are cold-process soap, hot-process soap, soap-based soap, etc. Different types of soaps are actually very different. Although both cold-process soap and soap-based soap are handmade soaps, the raw materials used in the two are not only different, but also the production methods, production cycles and glycerin content are different. So let's take a look at the differences between cold-process soap and soap-based soap?

First, what are the differences between cold process soap and soap base soap? The production raw materials are different. Soap base soap, which some people call "essential oil soap", is just the soap base with pigments, essential oils, etc. added. It is made directly from soap base and is usually purchased directly from the factory. Soap base is a simple basic raw material for making soap. It can also be said that it is made by mixing oil with sodium hydroxide (alkali) and water without any other additives. Any soap made from soap base can be called "soap base". Cold process soap is made from oil (animal oil/vegetable oil) + alkali (sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide dissolved in water) = soap + natural glycerin, through this very typical saponification reaction. The oils generally used for cold-process soap are mostly precious oils, such as olive oil, camellia oil, wheat germ oil, and rosehip oil. In good cold-process soap, the proportion of coconut oil and palm oil does not exceed 40%. In addition, you can also add natural ingredients that are beneficial to the skin, such as plants, mineral powder, essential oils, etc. So it doesn’t mean that essential oil soaps are good. Essential oils can also be present in cold-process soaps.

Second, the production methods are different. To make soap-based soap, you only need to heat the purchased soap base over water until it melts, add pigments, essential oils, etc., pour it into a mold, wait for a few hours to cool, and it will be formed and can be taken out. Moreover, the success rate is very high and it looks beautiful. Even children can do it independently. (The method of making soap base soap is a bit like that of boiling porridge. The cooked porridge (soap base) is placed there. If anyone wants a certain flavor, just take out a little and add some ingredients. It can be made as needed, hehe). To make cold-process soap, you need to mix oil, alkali and water, stir quickly at 30-40 degrees until the soap liquid is thick, add plants, mineral powder, essential oils, etc., pour into the mold, take out after molding, and place in a ventilated, cool place to cool until dry and mild. The production of cold process soap has very high requirements on technology and environment. If you are not careful, the soap will not look good enough and affect its appearance.

What is the difference between cold process soap and soap base soap? They have different effects on the skin. Industrial soaps have a strong alkaline cleaning power, but are quite harmful to skin that is not very oily. In addition, the soap base production process often requires the addition of alcohol or sugar to make the soap base transparent, or other chemicals to make it milky white. Alcohol has a good disinfecting effect, but it is also well known to be irritating to the skin. Cold process soap can use different oils and tailor-made formulas for different skin types. Whether it is oily skin or dry, sensitive skin, you can find suitable cold process soap. It can cleanse the skin moderately while leaving a natural oil and glycerin protective film on the skin. In addition, since the raw materials are all natural and harmless, and no chemical additives remain on the skin, it will not bring any burden to the skin, laying a good foundation for subsequent application of skin care products.
