Symptoms of tumor fever

Symptoms of tumor fever

Fever is a clinical symptom of many diseases. Many cancer patients also experience fever, which is called tumor fever. The reason for tumor fever is that during the transition period of cancer cell reproduction, the blood supply cannot meet the demand, so a large number of cancer cells necrotize and liquefy, releasing pyrogenic substances, and the patient will then experience fever symptoms. Long-term tumor fever can lead to a large amount of physical consumption and easily cause patient exhaustion, so it should be actively controlled.

1. The difference between tumor fever and fever caused by most diseases

1. Fever caused by most diseases is accompanied by increased white blood cell count and accelerated erythrocyte sedimentation rate, but fever caused by cancer may not show any special laboratory test results even if the fever is high.

2. Cancer fever lasts longer. The fever may be mild or severe, exceeding 37.8℃ at least once a day and lasting for more than several weeks. When accompanied by infection, continuous high fever may occur and the fever will continue after the infection is eliminated.

3. When cancer causes fever, the use of antibiotics and anti-allergic drugs has no obvious effect, but the use of anticancer drugs such as chlorfenapyr can reduce the fever.

4. Most patients have symptoms of low fever, which is intermittent and continuous. The duration of fever varies, and patients will not experience indigestion or loss of appetite. During the illness, patients may also experience fatigue and dizziness, lose weight, and have night sweats.

2. Causes of Tumor Fever

1. Malignant tumors of the blood and hematopoietic system, such as acute and chronic leukemia. The mechanism by which the disease causes fever is hypermetabolism of nuclear proteins, that is, tumor cells proliferate and destroy very vigorously, and a large amount of abnormal nuclear proteins enter the blood, stimulating the body temperature regulation center and causing fever.

2. Certain solid tumors, such as liver cancer, cause fever because the central part of the tumor suffers from ischemia and hypoxia, resulting in liquefaction and necrosis during its growth. These necrotic substances are absorbed into the blood and stimulate the body's temperature regulation center. Its fever characteristics are similar to those of malignant tumors of the blood and hematopoietic system.

3. Bone metastasis of certain tumors, such as breast cancer, is prone to occur. Malignant tumor cells proliferate in large numbers in the bone marrow, and its occurrence mechanism is similar to that of malignant tumors of the blood and hematopoietic system.

4. Secondary infection of malignant tumors. The most common infection is bacterial infection, but fungal and viral infections may also occur. The fever is caused by toxins and metabolic products produced by bacteria, etc., which act as pyrogens to stimulate the body temperature center.

3. Precautions for tumor-related fever

Prolonged tumor fever will cause the patient's body consumption to continue to increase. At this time, attention should be paid to the regulation of water, electrolytes and other nutrients. The patient's diet should be kept light and stay away from overly irritating foods.

4. How to deal with tumor-related fever

Including physical cooling therapy and drug cooling. Physical cooling therapy includes alcohol/warm water sponge baths for the whole body and local areas. During the sponge bath, the patient's armpits, groin and other large blood vessels can be wiped. Ice packs and enemas can be used for cooling when necessary.
