Physical changes after quitting smoking for one year

In contemporary society, more and more people are becoming addicted to smoking. This habit is harmful to the human body. It can seriously damage our lungs and pose a threat to our lifespan. Therefore, more and more people will quit smoking. After quitting smoking, many symptoms will appear and our bodies will undergo some changes. So what are the physical changes one year after quitting smoking?

Thirsty. Often accompanied by dry mouth. Drink plenty of fluids, especially water, to help flush toxins from your body.

Interrupted sleep. This is one of the more distressing withdrawal symptoms and is very common.

Sleepiness. Once the chemical stimulant effect of nicotine is gone, former smokers may experience a greater sense of relaxation. Some people feel like they can fall asleep at any time. Taking naps after meals and extending your sleep time at night may help overcome this condition.

Difficulty sleeping. Some people complain of difficulty sleeping at night after cutting down on smoking. You can use the time you can't sleep to your advantage: get up, read, write a letter, or go for a walk. Do not drink stimulating beverages such as tea, cocoa drinks, cola drinks containing milk, or fruit juice.

cough. After years of smoking, the lungs produce large amounts of mucus to protect themselves. During the period of quitting smoking, the mucus loosens and flows out of the airways, and the cilia begin to move again. People who quit smoking usually have a cough for a period of time (a few weeks).

constipate. Many people complain of constipation after reducing their consumption of coffee, tea, and other stimulant beverages associated with smoking. Drinking four to six glasses of water a day can relieve constipation. Eating more whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables can also help overcome this problem.

Headache. The headache may last for a day and may return after a week. The reason for this is still unclear.

Hunger. The body's ability to absorb food is improved. Almost all smokers experience a return to their appetite after quitting. To avoid gaining weight, get some physical exercise and eat foods low in sugar and calories.

Night sweats. Frequent bathing can provide relief. People who exercise regularly are less likely to experience severe night sweats.

Tremor. Mild tremors in the hands and fingers that may last for several weeks.

Mouth ulcers. A small number of smokers who quit smoking may experience oral irritation symptoms. Blisters on gums, mouth sores or inflammation are caused by chemicals adjusting in the body. It may be caused by vitamin deficiency. Improving diet and supplementing vitamins B and C can relieve symptoms.

Lack of concentration. The withdrawal of carbon monoxide is often followed by some disturbing but subtle symptoms. The sense of space and distance of smokers who quit smoking will be affected, and they will experience a sense of floating and difficulty concentrating. Avoid driving or operating machinery if possible at this time.
