Injection into the muscle hits the sciatic nerve

Injection into the muscle hits the sciatic nerve

Sciatica refers to sciatic nerve disease, a group of pain symptoms that occur along the sciatic nerve pathway, namely the lower back, buttocks, back of the thigh, posterior and lateral side of the calf, and outer side of the foot. The sciatic nerve is the main nerve trunk innervating the lower limbs.

The main symptoms of muscle needle injury to the sciatic nerve are pain and stiffness along the course of the sciatic nerve. The symptoms are similar to those of sciatic nerve compression caused by lumbar disc herniation. At the same time, severe pain may occur at the injection site. These symptoms are related to edema after sciatic nerve injury. Therefore, treatment is mainly focused on nerve nutrition, and there is no specific medicine.

When the sciatic nerve is pricked by a needle, there will be an immediate strong reaction, which is a discharge sensation that is quickly transmitted to the distal lower limb. If the injury is serious, it may cause disorders in the limbs innervated by the sciatic nerve, such as motor weakness in the lower limbs, loss of sensation and other symptoms. The specific situation depends on the extent of the injury. And all of this will happen on the spot.

After the sciatic nerve is injured, all muscles in the posterior thigh, calf, and foot become paralyzed, resulting in inability to flex the knee joint, complete loss of movement function of the ankle joint and toes, and foot drop. There is loss of sensation in the posterolateral calf and foot, and neurotrophic changes in the foot.

Once symptoms occur after injury to the sciatic nerve, the local intramuscular injection should be stopped first. At the same time, the local area should be treated with infrared or electromagnetic wave irradiation, massage and physical therapy, and then combined with systemic use of nerve nourishing drugs. Chinese herbal decoctions for promoting blood circulation and unblocking meridians can also be used for treatment.
